Broncos QB Bo Nix Looks ‘Very Healthy’ Ahead of OTAs

The Denver Broncos already believed Bo Nix was trending in the right direction after his January ankle injury. Jim Nantz just added another encouraging detail.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show tied to Masters week, Nantz said he ran into Nix at Augusta National and came away with a simple but notable takeaway: the Broncos quarterback “looked very healthy” and was “walking around” the course.

“I ran into Bo Nix who looked very healthy here,” Nantz told McAfee. “Bo Nix was walking that place. He was walking around and it it was fascinating.”

That does not qualify as an official medical update, and it is not more important than what Denver’s coaches and executives have already said. But for Broncos fans wondering how Nix looks a few months removed from ankle surgery, it is still a useful sign. Augusta is not exactly known for being an easy walk, and Nantz’s comment lines up with Denver’s recent optimism about Nix’s recovery timeline.

Jim Nantz’s Bo Nix comment fits what Broncos leaders have already said

Nix’s 2025 season ended when he suffered a broken right ankle during Denver’s playoff win over the Buffalo Bills in January. He underwent surgery soon after, with early reporting indicating a roughly 12-week recovery window. Later, Nix described the injury as a “simple bone break” and said he expected to be back training within four to six weeks, while making clear he did not expect the issue to derail his offseason.

More recently, the Broncos have sounded increasingly confident.

At the NFL owners meetings, team owner Greg Penner said Nix was “ahead of schedule” and that there were “no concerns at all” about OTAs. General manager George Paton added that Nix was “running” and “jumping,” and head coach Sean Payton later said the expectation was for Nix to be cleared for the Broncos’ first OTA work in June.

That is what makes Nantz’s observation worth noting. It supports what the Broncos have already been saying for the last couple of weeks.

Why walking Augusta matters for Bo Nix

Nantz did not just say he saw Nix at the Masters. He specifically emphasized that Nix looked healthy and was walking the grounds at Augusta. Anyone who has spent time around the tournament knows the course is famous for its hills and elevation changes, which is one reason players, caddies and patrons all talk about how different the terrain feels in person.

That does not mean Broncos fans should suddenly treat a Masters walk like a team-issued clearance. But as a practical sign of comfort and mobility, it is hard to miss. If Nix were still badly limited by the ankle, this would be a much less notable anecdote.

In other words, Nantz’s comment matters because it passes the common-sense test. A quarterback recovering from ankle surgery being spotted moving around Augusta National without issue is better than being unseen, inactive or still clearly restricted.

What the update means for Denver’s offseason

The bigger football takeaway is straightforward: everything still points toward Nix being ready when Denver ramps up organized team activities.

That matters because this is not a normal quiet offseason for the Broncos. Year 3 is shaping up as a major developmental stretch for Nix after Denver’s postseason run, and every extra rep matters in Sean Payton’s offense. Even if the Broncos remain cautious with his workload early, the team’s recent messaging suggests they do not expect the ankle to be a lingering problem heading into the summer program.

So while Nantz did not deliver a formal injury report, he did offer something useful: another positive sign that the Broncos quarterback looks like a player moving normally again.

For Denver fans, that is the real takeaway from the Masters mention. Bo Nix was not just spotted at Augusta. According to Nantz, he looked healthy doing it.
