The Baltimore Ravens officially kicked off their first head coaching search in nearly two decades on Thursday.
They immediately turned their attention out west to the Denver Broncos staff.
According to NBC Sports, the Ravens interviewed Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and quarterbacks coach/pass game coordinator Davis Webb on Thursday.
This marks the first significant early step in the post-John Harbaugh era.
Both interviews were conducted remotely during Denver’s playoff bye week, per league insiders.
Baltimore begins the process of reshaping the franchise following Harbaugh’s dismissal on Monday after an 18-season run that included a Super Bowl title.
This move sent shockwaves through the league.
It has now clearly put the Broncos’ coaching staff squarely in their replacement head coach conversion.
Vance Joseph and Davis Webb Interview with Ravens
Joseph brings the most traditional background of the two candidates.
The 53-year-old has previous head coaching experience, having led the Denver Broncos from 2017-18.
He has rebuilt his reputation over the last two seasons running one of the NFL’s most dominant defenses under Sean Payton.
Denver finished the 2025 regular season as a top-three defense in points allowed, yards allowed, and sacks.
This directly aligns with Baltimore’s long-standing defensive identity that they lacked this season.
For a Ravens team who struggled to consistently pressure QB’s this season, Joseph’s track record of generating pass rush across an entire unit is appealing.
Webb, meanwhile, represents the opposite end of the spectrum.
He is a fast-rising coaching prospect with just three years of NFL coaching experience.
The former NFL quarterback has been instrumental in Denver’s offensive growth and the development of Bo Nix.
He has earned league-wide attention for his great communication skills and schematic understanding.
The Ravens will continue to interview other candidates in the near future, including the likes of Brian Flores and Klint Kubiak.
Broncos’ Success Drawing League-Wide Attention
The Ravens’ interest is part of a broader trend.
Around the league, teams are increasingly targeting assistants from the Denver Broncos.
This is a reflection of how complete Denver’s turnaround has been over the last two seasons.
As highlighted by recent reporting, multiple Broncos coaches, including Joseph, Webb, and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi, have drawn head-coaching interest from multiple teams.
This attention isn’t accidental.
Denver earned the AFC’s top seed by excelling in all three phases.
Joseph has now interviewed with the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and now the Baltimore Ravens this week.
The Raiders and Ravens have interviewed Webb with the Giants also showing interest.
For Baltimore and many other team’s around the NFL, there’s real appeal in the Broncos coaching staff.
While members of the staff continue to explore opportunities during the bye, the Broncos’ focus remains on next week’s divisional round and a Super Bowl run that’s very much within reach.
