The Denver Broncos are keeping the band together so far, with the early stages of free agency–better known as the legal tampering period–yielding a significant returnee, veteran linebacker Alex Singleton.

Singleton has been with the Broncos since 2022. He has earned his way into being a back-to-back team captain over the past two seasons.

The former undrafted free agent will look to reprise his role in 2026.

“BREAKING: The Broncos are re-signing Alex Singleton to a two-year deal worth $15.5 million with $11 million guaranteed, per source,” DNVR’s Zac Stevens reported on X on March 9.

Singleton, 32, is coming off a three-year, $18 million contract with the Broncos. He has earned $20.6 million in his career, not including his new deal. Spotrac projected Singleton’s market value at $4.7 million annually.

They added a two-year, $9.3 million pact as an example of what he could receive.

Singleton appeared in 16 regular-season games for the Broncos in 2025, missing his lone contest after surgery to remove a cancerous growth.

Singleton made it clear from the outset of the offseason that he wanted to return to the Broncos for next season. He got his wish, and the Broncos seemingly saved some cap space despite what was expected to be a robust market for the veteran.

He began his career with the Seattle Seahawks.

However, Singleton has also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, and Philadelphia Eagles in addition to the Broncos.

Singleton popped up at No. 99 on The Athletic’s free agency rankings, checking in as the ninth-best linebacker of the class.

“Singleton is a physical, violent off-ball linebacker who plays with an edge,” The Athletic’s Daniel Popper wrote in February. “He is at his best when moving downhill as a run defender and blitzer. He is willing and eager to take on climbing interior linemen, and the film shows he loves contact. Singleton ranked 12th in pass-rush win rate among off-ball linebackers with at least 80 pass-rush snaps. He is less instinctive as a coverage player, particularly in zone coverage.”

The Athletic projected a two-year, $19 million deal, but the Broncos retained Singleton for less. The Broncos re-signed veteran backup Justin Strnad on Sunday, keeping their two longest-tenured players at the position in-house entering the offseason.

Alex Singleton Honored Before Re-Signing

Before officially returning to the Broncos, Singleton was honored, adding another accomplishment to a challenging season.

“At a time he is poised to become a free agent next week, Denver LB Alex Singleton is set to be honored this weekend in Baltimore as the Broncos’ 2026 Ed Block Courage Award winner,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on X on March 6. “Singleton was diagnosed with testicular cancer prior to the week 10 matchup vs. the Raiders, played that game, then had surgery to remove the cancer the following day before returning to action after one missed game.”

Singleton had 135 total tackles in 2025, his third time with 100-plus stops with the Broncos.

The Broncos will almost certainly look to get younger at the linebacker spot, but even those players can and will benefit from having Singleton around as a mentor. This deal ensures that for the 2026 season at least.
