The Detroit Lions are officially in offseason mode after their 2025 campaign came to a close with a 9-8 record, which wasn’t good enough to secure a third straight trip to the NFL Postseason.
They had to sit and watch while the rival Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers duked it out in the NFL Wild Card round on Saturday evening, which ultimately resulted in a dramatic comeback victory for the Bears and former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
For the Packers, it was a monumental collapse after it appeared that they were on their way to the subsequent round. And if the latest report from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is any indication, the Packers could soon make a major move that would make life all the more difficult for the Lions.

The Green Bay Packers Could Hire John Harbaugh, Which Would Spell Bad News For The Detroit Lions
Following their shocking loss to the Bears, the Packers could choose to make some meaningful changes, and there are rumors swirling that the job security of head coach Matt LaFleur could be in danger.
Conversely, the Baltimore Ravens recently made a major change in leadership with the termination of head coach John Harbaugh, who is now already one of the most highly-sought after names on the open coaching market.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Packers ought to seriously consider a hire of Harbaugh, and lists a family connection to Harbaugh that could help grease the skids.
“Well, the Packers former president back in the day was a man by the name of Bob Harlan,” Schefter said. “Bob Harlan’s son, Brian Harlan, represents John Harbaugh. John Harbaugh is a midwestern guy who has a home in the Upper Peninsula. A lot of people in the league have been wondering, if the Packers decide to go in a different direction, if all of a sudden, the Green Bay Packers might vault to the top of John Harbaugh’s list as the top available choice for him. This has been a wild crazy coaching cycle, and we might be just scratching the surface.”
Harbaugh was let go by the Ravens earlier in the week in a move that caught many off guard, and he’ll have no shortage of job offers in the coming weeks.

Matt LaFleur Insists He’s Not Worried About His Job
When he was asked about his feelings on his current job security, LaFleur insisted that he’s not thinking about it right now.
“Now’s not the time for that,” Leleur said. “That’s not the focus right now, to be honest with you. We’re fresh off this loss, and my sole focus is our players, our team, and just trying to find ways to get better.”
Unfortunately for the Lions, the Packers defeated them in both matchups in their recently completed season.
Not only did Green Bay embarrass Detroit at Lambeau Field in Week One, but they followed that up with a 31-24 victory at Ford Field in Detroit’s annual Thanksgiving Day game, which dealt a serious blow to Detroit’s playoff hopes.
