Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown went down in the team’s Christmas game, suffering an injury in the closing seconds.
St. Brown was hurt while going up for a pass late in the fourth quarter against the Minnesota Vikings. He appeared to fall awkwardly, hurting his leg. He was tended to by the team’s medical staff and later seen walking to the locker room.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Has Been Ailing
The Lions did not give a full update on St. Brown after the game, with details on his injury expected to come later in the week after he undergoes a full evaluation.
St. Brown had been dealing with some nagging injuries leading up to the team’s Christmas evening game, suffering a leg injury on Thanksgiving but not missing any time. St. Brown had been listed as questionable for Thursday’s game.
He was hurt again in last week’s loss to the Steelers, sitting out Monday’s practice before returning for Tuesday’s walk-through. Head coach Dan Campbell said he was encouraged by St. Brown’s progress throughout the week.
“It’s positive news, but he’s a little irritated,” Campbell told reporters. “There’s a little irritation, so short week, we’ll see. But I would say it’s still positive news.”
As the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported before the game, the Lions had a number of ailing players, but St. Brown was considered good enough to play.
“Amon-Ra St. Brown officially questionable, as is… basically the whole roster,” Rapoport wrote in a post on X. “St. Brown seems to be in a good position to play.”
St. Brown was in noticeable pain after his injury on Thursday, which came after an incomplete pass during the team’s final drive. The Lions were able to reach midfield, but time expired before they had a chance to take a shot at the endzone.
The All-Pro wide receiver had eight receptions for 68 yards in the game. The Lions lost 23-10, ending their long-shot hopes of making the playoffs.
Lions Could Sit Wide Receiver for Final Week
With the Lions now eliminated from playoff contention, they will have the chance to rest St. Brown for the final week.
The Lions suffered some other injuries during Thursday’s game, with All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell leaving the game briefly in the second quarter after suffering an apparent leg injury. Linebacker Alex Anzalone was also taken out of the game and evaluated for a concussion.
The Lions had a sloppy game in Thursday’s loss, committing six turnovers.
“The story of the game is turnovers,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game. “You can’t turn the ball over six times and win in this league.”
The Lions also wasted a strong effort on defense as they held rookie quarterback Max Brosmer to just three net yards passing. Brosmer played a safe game, committing no turnovers and keeping the Vikings in position to win.
After the game, the rookie quarterback said it was a learning experience
“NFL football is hard, and people say it a lot,” Brosmer said. “NFL football is fun too. That’s not me saying I don’t enjoy this. My favorite part is the process.”
