Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell addressed the team's pass rush after an historic day against the Baltimore Ravens.

Two-time MVP Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson continued some of his previous Monday night success in Week 3 against Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions. He completed 10.7 yards per pass with three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

But the Lions defense did a terrific job of containing Jackson in the run game. Detroit sacked the Ravens signal-caller seven times and held him to 35 rushing yards.

The seven sacks against Jackson tied a career high. The last time he took that many sacks was four years ago against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Behind those seven sacks, the Lions defeated the Ravens 38-30 in Week 3. Campbell shared after the win how proud he was of his pass rush.

“Those guys were very disciplined. They played off each other. They casted the net; they closed the net,” Campbell said. “We didn’t have anybody jump up in the air, ill-advised diving. Man, they all bottled him up. They were disciplined. And guys made huge plays. He had nowhere to go, and that’s the key.”

2023 Pro Bowler Aidan Hutchinson posted his second sack of the season. But it was a total group effort for the Lions, who were playing without starting edge rusher Marcus Davenport for the first time in 2025.

“It takes everybody doing their job, and our guys did that,” Campbell added. “It was good.”

Lions Sack Lamar Jackson 7 Times in Monday Night Win

The Lions pass rush came alive during Week 2 when the team registered four sacks against the Chicago Bears. But on Monday night, the unit had arguably its best night since Campbell became head coach in 2021.

Detroit made Jackson uncomfortable in the pocket, and he rarely had a place to escape.

As a result, the Ravens allowed the most sacks in the 30-year history of the franchise. The only other time Baltimore yielded that many sacks was versus Pittsburgh in 2021.

Campbell called Jackson’s lack of places to run the key to the game. One could also call Detroit’s ability to shut down both Jackson and running back Derrick Henry the most significant factor.

Teams that sell out to stop Jackson in the ground game often allow Henry to run wild. But the Lions also contained Henry on Monday, holding him to 50 rushing yards and 4.2 yards per carry.

Lions Overcome Loss of Marcus Davenport

Maybe most impressively, the Lions accomplish their impressive sack feat without Davenport.

Campbell essentially ruled out Davenport for Week 3 on Saturday. Then on Monday before the game, the Lions placed Davenport on injured reserve.

But his replacement, Al-Quadin Muhammad, posted a career-high 2.5 sacks. The last time Muhammad had two sacks in a game was Week 13 in 2021.

Including Hutchinson and Muhammad, the Lions had six defenders register at least half a sack.

The Lions will need to continue to feature a balanced pass rushing attack over the next few weeks. With Davenport on injured reserve, he will miss at least three more games.

The veteran defensive end sustained a chest injury during Week 2.

The Lions will return home to host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 28 in Week 4.
