The Detroit Lions could still make a move to acquire Las Vegas Raiders edge Maxx Crosby and bring him back to his home state, after the bombshell news that the Baltimore Ravens have backed out of their deal to acquire Crosby.
But, will the Detroit Lions do it? We all know Brad Holmes doesn’t like spending big bucks in free agency, and Crosby is an elite defensive end who would demand that kind of bag. Plus, the Lions would have to give up a lot, in terms of picks, and that’s another question mark. The original deal was to trade the five-time Pro-Bowl defensive end to the Ravens in exchange for 2026 and 2027 first-round picks.
So, the Detroit Lions could make a bold statement by trading for Crosby and pairing him with edge Aidan Hutchinson. Now, they’re being urged to make that happen, and the good news is that teams are dropping out of the competition.
Teams Continue to Drop Out of the Running to Get Maxx Crosby
The Detroit Lions won’t have to compete against as many teams to get Crosby this time around. According to Dianna Russini of the Athletic, the Dallas Cowboys are no longer going to pursue him, and according to Jeff McLane of the Inquirer, via the Philadelphia Eagles Central, that it’s “unlikely” the Eagles will pursue Crosby this time around.
“The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to re-engage in Maxx Crosby trade discussions at this time, a high-ranking source tells The Athletic,” Russini said in a post on X. She also said that the Raiders aren’t budging on their trade demands, stating, “Teams that are interested in Maxx Crosby believe the Raiders aren’t going to come off their asking price of two first-round picks at this time.”
“It seems ‘unlikely’ that the Eagles will be willing to meet the Raiders asking price for Maxx Crosby, per Jeff McLane,” Philadelphia Eagles Centra stated on X.
However, McLane also said, “Eagles should at least circle back on Maxx Crosby with his value seemingly decreased.”
According to a report from Ryan McFadden of ESPN, Baltimore backed out of the deal due to Crosby’s physical. “No further details were provided in the Raiders’ announcement, but league sources told ESPN the Ravens backed out because of medical concerns that arose during a physical,” McFadden stated.
Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff Restructuring Could Help the Team Get Maxx Crosby
Another bright lights is that when the Detroit Lions restructured Goff’s contract on Wednesday, March 11, that left more money on the table to make a big deal, such as for Crosby.
According to Pelissero, “The Lions restructured QB Jared Goff’s contract, converting $40 million of his base salary to a signing bonus and adding a void year to clear $32M in 2026 cap space.” So, that helps the Lions make bigger moves.
Crosby’s stats are still strong. During the 2025 NFL regular season, according to NFL research, Crosby recorded 73 total tackles, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and one interception. So, if the Detroit Lions seal the deal, they’ll get another solid defensive end.
