Nobody knows exactly what the future holds for the Detroit Lions in the wake of their disappointing 2025 NFL campaign coming to a close without a playoff berth, but fans can bet that there will be some level of change coming to the organization that didn’t live up to the expectations of having won 15 games in 2024.
And while the team that left the gridiron at Soldier Field after Sunday evening’s 19-16 victory over the rival Chicago Bears to close out the campaign on somewhat of a high note is guaranteed to look different than the one that will begin next season, it appears as though one member of the current roster has all but officially announced his departure.

Detroit Lions CB Amik Robertson Implies That He’s On The Verge Of A Departure
Following Detroit’s 19-16 victory over the Chicago Bears, cornerback Amik Robertson seemed to imply that his time with the Lions was coming to an end while fighting back tears.
“It’s over. There’s no more,” Robertson said. “I’m emotional because it’s rare that you are able to go to work every day with these type of guys that love the game of football, and want the best for one another.”
It wasn’t long ago that the Lions were a doormat in the NFL, a reputation that they’ve managed to shed thanks to consecutive NFC North Division titles in 2023 and 2024. During that time, the leadership group of the Lions has improved, something that Robertson isn’t taking for granted.
“It’s rare in this league,” he said of Detroit’s leadership core. “Even listening to older guys, they say take advantage of those relationships with guys that want the best for you in the game of football, because it’s rare. You appreciate these guys, and you tell them; you tell the coaches when you leave. When I leave here, and when I leave that building tomorrow, I want all of them to know that I appreciate them.”
“I don’t regret nothing, man,” he concluded. “I’m just blessed to be able to be a part of a great organization. And, I’m going to miss it. I am going to miss it.”
Robertson, who attended Louisiana Tech University, was initially selected in the fourth round (139th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. He would play eight, 10, 17, and 17 games in the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 NFL seasons while a member of the organization.
He then signed a two–year, $9.25 million contract with the Lions in March 2024 which included $4.50 million guaranteed upon signing and an initial signing bonus of $3.30 million.
Robertson played in all 17 games with the Lions in 2024 while starting four of them. He also appeared in all 17 games in the recently completed 2025 season for the Lions.

The Lions Defeated The Bears In Their 2025 Season Finale
The Lions, who had already defeated the division rival Bears in Week Two of the 2025 season, came into Week 18 with essentially nothing to play for after having been officially eliminated from playoff contention thanks to their devastating loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day.
But they managed to close out their season on a high note, enjoying a walk-off victory over the Bears thanks to a 42-yard field goal from Jake Bates as regulation expired, improving their record to 9-8 and dealing former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson a loss.
