The Green Bay Packers appear to see less being more for the team at wide receiver in 2026. The team hopes that helps quarterback Jordan Love, who didn’t have a pass-catcher eclipse the 750 receiving yard mark last season.
With fewer quality receivers on the depth chart, the Packers should have more opportunities to involve their wideouts. Essentially, they want to trade quantity for quality.
Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, though, isn’t 100% convinced the strategy will work. Gagnon named the Packers struggling to find an elite pass-catcher for Love the team’s nightmare scenario for 2026.
“Nobody emerges as Jordan Love’s top target, and a young offensive line fails to take a step forward as Green Bay proves that its five-game losing streak to wrap up 2025 wasn’t a fluke,” wrote Gagnon.
Will a WR1 Emerge for Jordan Love & Packers?
Without a receiver reaching 750 yards, Love still turned in a nice campaign for the Packers last season. The quarterback had 3,381 passing yards with 23 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Love averaged 7.7 yards per attempt.
But Love has the potential for NFL stardom. That has yet to really happen, and the Packers receiving corps is likely part of why.
After years of seemingly ignoring wide receiver early in the draft, the Packers selected Matthew Golden in the first round during 2025. Additionally, Green Bay grabbed Savion Williams in the third round last year.
The early draft investment is now there, and the depth is there. It’s time for the group to produce.
They’re going to have to if the Packers intend to avoid Gagnon’s nightmare scenario. Doubs led the team with 55 catches and 724 receiving yards last season and signed with the New England Patriots in NFL free agency.
Getting back a healthy tight end in Tucker Kraft will help. Kraft missed the second half of last season because of a torn ACL.
But the Packers need one (preferably multiple) of their young wideouts to emerge as a star.
Watson playing a full season this fall should help too. Watson had 611 receiving yards, averaging 17.5 yards per catch, in 10 games last season.
Golden recorded 29 receptions and 361 receiving yards as a rookie. Williams registered 10 catches for 78 yards.
Could Packers Still Add Veteran WR?
With no proven WR1, pundits have questioned whether the Packers could still pursue a veteran wideout this summer.
The Sporting News’ Dharya Sharma proposed Keenan Allen as a possibility.
It’s hard to argue more depth is a bad thing. But again, the Packers appear to be emphasizing quality over quantity at wideout this year. Bringing in Allen will take away opportunities that could help Golden, Williams and others develop.
In summary, the Packers need a WR1 — not more depth. At this point in NFL free agency, there isn’t true WR1 type talent available.
It’s important to note that Gagnon didn’t predict Green Bay’s nightmare scenario to happen. The Bleacher Report analyst named a nightmare scenario for every NFL team.
But to avoid it and put an end to last year’s five-game losing streak, the Packers require a receiver to become Love’s favorite target and produce like a WR1.
