The Green Bay Packers are off to a slow start in NFL free agency. While Brian Gutekunst has brought in both Javon Hargrave and Skyy Moore, the franchise has seen a lot of players exit town to other teams.
Among the mass offseason exodus are players like quarterback Malik Willis, wide receiver Romeo Doubs, cornerback Nate Hobbs, linebacker Quay Walker, running back Emanuel Wilson, and both Elgton Jenkins and Rasheed Walker on the offensive line.
Fans are hoping to see the Packers get aggressive and start bringing new players onboard.
While free agency is one route for Green Bay to make roster improvements, the 2026 NFL Draft will be important as well. The Packers don’t have a first-round pick due to the Micah Parsons trade last offseason, which will mean that Gutekunst has to hit on his second and third-round picks especially.
Keeping that in mind, Green Bay has been connected to a potentially perfect fit at the cornerback position as a second round pick.
Green Bay Packers Linked to Intriguing Cornerback Option
Mike Luciano of Lombardi Ave has suggested that Miami Hurricanes cornerback Keionte Scott would be a potential fit in the second round at pick No. 53 overall.
“Scott isn’t a lockdown corner due to his gambling nature, but he can play all over the defensive backfield and is one of the best tacklers in this class,” Luciano wrote.
“With great ball skills, Scott should have no issue muscling his way into the Packers’ starting lineup following Nate Hobbs’ release. He intercepted two passes last season and returned both for touchdowns.”
If the Packers are going to be a Super Bowl contender next season, they’re going to need more playmaking in the secondary. Scott would bring that potential to the field.
What Does Keionte Scott Bring to the Table?
Standing in at 6-foot-0 and 192 pounds, Scott is coming off of a four-year college career. He played his first three seasons with the Auburn Tigers before finishing up with Miami.
During the 2025 college football season with the Hurricanes, Scott was a huge part of the team’s run to the National Championship Game.
Scott recorded 64 total tackles to go along with five sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, and five defended passes. Those numbers speak for themselves.
Bringing in an all-around playmaker like Scott would give new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon a lot of options. He can blitz, make plays in the defensive backfield, and he tackles well. Those are all qualities Green Bay should be targeting.
No draft pick is a sure thing, but Scott has a great skill-set. The Packers would be wise to take a long look at him if he’s available in the second round.
