The 2025 NFL season has officially come to an end for the Green Bay Packers, with Jordan Love and company falling to Caleb Williams and the bitter division rival Chicago Bears during Wild Card Weekend at Lambeau Field on Saturday.
As expected, the Packers and Bears showdown in the first round of the NFL playoffs was an absolute slugfest, with neither team having any intention of backing down to their division rivals. Even though it appeared at times that Green Bay had the game in hand and would be advancing to the Divisional Round of the postseason, Ben Johnson’s squad showed why they are the NFC North division champions, with the team’s resiliency leading them to a three-point win on the road.
In the aftermath of a disappointing loss to the Bears, which turned out to be the team’s fifth consecutive loss, the job status of head coach Matt LaFleur is on shaky ground, especially with former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh available on the open market.
Matt LaFleur Addresses Future With Packers

After the tough loss to the Bears, LaFleur spoke to the media and, as expected, was asked questions about his future with the team, considering he has only one year left on his contract with the storied NFL franchise.
“With all due respect to your question, now’s not the time for that,” LaFleur said of his future with the Packers. “I’m just hurting for these guys. I can only think about what just happened, and there will be time for that.”
Even though it was a rough end to the 2025 campaign, losing five straight games and being eliminated from the playoffs by the Bears, LaFleur loves the Packers organization and doesn’t want to leave anytime soon.
“This is the greatest organization in the world, in my opinion,” LaFleur said. “It’s very humbling. I’m certainly disappointed right now, disappointed mostly for — well, not mostly — I’m disappointed for everybody that’s associated with the Green Bay Packers. I’m disappointed for our locker room. I’m disappointed for our fans. I’m disappointed for our leadership, all our employees, everybody involved with the Green Bay Packers right now.”
Even though LaFleur is considered one of the best head coaches in the game and a highly respected figure in the Packers organization, the fact is that things can change quickly in the NFL, especially when someone like Harbaugh is among the head coaches available heading into the offseason.
John Harbaugh an Option for the Packers?

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Harbaugh could be a very real option for the Packers if the team decides to part ways with LaFleur after the late-season collapse.
“Former Packers President Bob Harlan is royalty in Green Bay,” Schefter said. “His son Bryan is an agent who represents John Harbaugh. John Harbaugh has deep midwestern roots and ties. If the Packers decide they want to change head coaches, Harbaugh would be the most logical replacement.”
At this point, there’s no telling where Harbaugh will land, with every team in the league with an opening at head coach seemingly interested in the one-time Super Bowl champion.
It’ll be interesting to see what the Packers’ brass does from here and if the team feels it has a good shot at bringing in Harbaugh.
