The Green Bay Packers already have four quarterbacks on their roster at training camp. But that didn’t stop them from doing some homework on free agent signal-caller Seth Henigan.
According to the NFL transaction wire, the Packers hosted Henigan for a tryout Saturday. Green Bay also held tryouts for three free agent wide receivers.
Henigan went unselected during the 2025 NFL Draft. He signed in undrafted free agency with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After spending training camp and the preseason with the Jaguars, Henigan was released as part of the team’s final roster cuts. Jacksonville brought back Henigan on its first practice squad but then parted with the quarterback again in late September.
Henigan finished his rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts.
Over four college seasons at Memphis, Henigan threw for 14,266 passing yards and 104 touchdowns. He completed 64% of his passes and averaged eight yards per attempt in his career.
Henigan threw for at least 3,300 yards in all four of his seasons.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Henigan is an intriguing prospect. He appeared in 50 college games during his career, so he’s experienced. He has also spent a year in the NFL.
Yet, Henigan doesn’t turn 24 years old until March.
During the 2025 draft process, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein argued the former Memphis quarterback wasn’t a “commanding” thrower and lacked arm talent. But Zierlein also wrote Henigan could be “worth a look” as a backup.
The Packers already have a few backup quarterbacks on their roster. During the spring, Green Bay added veteran Tyrod Taylor to be QB2 behind Jordan Love. The Packers also have former 2025 sixth-rounder Kyle McCord and undrafted rookie Kyron Drones.
Green Bay would very likely have to cut either McCord or Drones to give Henigan a roster spot during training camp.
That’s probably unlikely to occur. But maybe the Packers are already looking ahead to Henigan becoming a potential practice squad option during the regular season.
Packers Also Host 3 Wideouts for Tryouts
Henigan wasn’t the only visitor for a workout in Green Bay on Saturday. Wide receivers Kobe Hudson, Kisean Johnson and Cornell Powell were the three receivers who worked out for the Packers.
Hudson is the youngest and most inexperienced of the group. He entered the NFL out of UCF as an undrafted free agent for the Carolina Panthers. After not making the team last preseason and failing to find another NFL opportunity, Hudson signed with the Houston Gamblers of the UFL in February.
The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Powell at No. 181 overall in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Chiefs, but he only appeared in the regular season during 2022. In three contests, Powell played three offensive snaps and 28 on special teams. He didn’t record a statistic.
Powell has played for the DC Defenders the past two UFL seasons. Last summer, he was with the Houston Texans during the preseason. Powell then had a brief stint on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad in November.
Johnson was previously with the Packers for a brief time this year. Green Bay signed the wideout to its practice squad on January 6. The Packers released Johnson, though, on January 20 after their playoff exit.
As of August 8, the Packers have 10 wide receivers on their training camp roster.
