The Green Bay Packers once again struggled on special teams, a predicament that stretches back over a decade and spans over the course of multiple coordinators.
The failure to improve the unit was likely a major factor in the decision of former special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia’s decision to depart the organization and subsequently sign on to fulfill the same role at Clemson University.
The return game in particular struggled after former All-Pro returner Keisean Nixon moved to full-time cornerback, where he had a mixed, but by no means poor season.
However, according to a new report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Green Bay have agreed to sign former Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver and kick returner Skyy Moore on a one-year deal.
“Sources: The Packers are signing former 49ers WR/returner Skyy Moore to a 1-year deal. Moore averaged 27.5 yards per kick return and 11.6 yards per punt return in San Francisco — a key weapon for field position.” Schultz wrote on Tuesday.
Moore was predominantly utilized as a backup/rotational wideout in Kansas City since being drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft until he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a seventh round pick in spring 2025.
In San Francisco his role changed substantially; whilst he only caught five passes on offense throughout the entire season, for the first time in his career he became a bona fide threat in the return game, managing almost 1,200 yards returning punts and kickoffs from 58 total attempts – including one mega 98 yard return against the Arizona Cardinals back in November.
