The Houston Texans continued their season-long trend of shuffling their roster, particularly in a deep secondary, with their Wild Card showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers rapidly approaching.
This time, the Texans doubled back for a player they know fairly well.
The move comes amid another encouraging development that bodes well for the Texans ahead of what they hope will be an extended postseason run.
Texans Bringing Back K’Von Wallace in Roster Update

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported in a post on X on January 7 that the Texans were “re-signing safety K’Von Wallace,” this time adding him to their practice squad.
Wallace, 28, initially signed with the Texans in Week 11, before their eventual win over the Tennessee Titans. The Texans elevated Wallace for Week 16, signed him to the 53-man roster for Week 17, and then cut him after Week 18.
Wallace has 9 total tackles in his three games played (one start) with the Texans.
The six-year pro entered the league with the Philadelphia Eagles as the No. 127 overall pick of the 2020 draft.
Wallace, who can fill roles at corner, nickelback, and safety, has also played for the Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and Seattle Seahawks. He also spent time with the New York Giants during the 2025 offseason and the Minnesota Vikings during the regular campaign.
The Texans cut Wallace after DeMeco Ryans’ comments on busted coverages in the finale.
“We didn’t end the year well defensively. When it comes to giving up explosive plays, it was really not good enough defensively,” Ryans told reporters on January 5. “From our last game, it’s too many busts. Guys not being where they’re supposed to be, doing what they’re supposed to do. And when you bust plays and coverages, you give up big plays.”
However, Wallace’s departure also preceded another, more encouraging development for the Texans’ roster as playoff preparations continue.
Texans Get Good News on Rookie DB

GettyJaylen Reed #23 of the Houston Texans leaves the field with an injury against the Indianapolis Colts.
Encouragingly for the Texans, their group is poised to get some roster reinforcement, which could explain their decision with Wallace. Wilson reported in a follow-up article that rookie sixth-round pick Jaylen Reed is expected to return for the postseason.
The Texans confirmed the news shortly thereafter.
Houston has cycled through multiple safeties. They cut offseason trade acquisition C.J. Gardner-Johnson after Week 3 following reports of missed assignments and locker room friction.
Injuries also hit the Texans. M.J. Stewart suffered a season-ending injury. Reed, the No. 187 overall pick in the 2025 draft, landed on IR. Even nickleback Jalen Pitre, who is a safety by trade, missed time.
Myles Bryant filled in as well, but Wallace replaced him in the starting lineup.
Reed played in seven games for the Texans during the regular season, but he suffered his injury in his first start and subsequently missed the final five weeks of the campaign.
Reinserting Reed into the starting lineup for his first playoff game, and on the road no less, is a risky gamble. The Texans can still call Wallace up to the game-day roster three times during their playoff stay, since practice squad elevations reset in the postseason.
