Daniel Muir Arrested on New Federal Firearm Charges
Former Indianapolis Colts player Daniel Muir was arrested in Pulaski County on August 20 after federal prosecutors filed two firearm-related charges against him.
Muir is accused of making a false statement to a licensed firearms dealer and making a false or fictitious statement while completing Form 4473, the federal document used during the purchase of a firearm.
The charges were filed on May 22 but remained sealed until Muir’s arrest. The public federal court record did not provide further details on what led to the charges, and a federal court date had not been announced at the time of the reports provided.
Form 4473 is part of the federal firearm-purchase process. It collects information used for the required background check and helps determine whether a buyer can legally receive a firearm.
The federal allegations are separate from Muir’s existing Indiana case, and the charges remain allegations unless and until proven in court.
The timing is significant because Muir was already preparing for legal proceedings in Indiana related to his teenage son’s disappearance and alleged abuse. He faces charges including obstruction of justice, domestic battery and battery resulting in serious bodily injury in Cass County.
Muir’s Indiana trial has been rescheduled for September 28, 2026. His wife, Kristin, is also facing an obstruction-of-justice charge in the same case, and her trial has been moved to the same date.
Muir spent five seasons with the Colts from 2008 through 2012. He played 56 games during his NFL career and finished with 128 total tackles, 99 solo tackles and 29 assists. He also recorded 1.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss.
While Muir’s legal situation continues to unfold off the football field, his former team is facing a different kind of pressure as the Colts take part in their second preseason game.
