The Kansas City Chiefs were busy during the 2026 NFL Draft, as they reinforced their roster with seven new players, three of whom were selected in the top 40 picks. With these guys in the fold, the Chiefs are hoping that they have enough talent at their disposal to find their way back to the playoffs next season.
Of course, while the majority of Kansas City’s big offseason moves have already been made, the front office is continuing to see if it can spot any diamonds in the rough. The Chiefs will have an opportunity to bring in several undrafted rookies to participate in their rookie minicamp, and it looks like a speedy wide receiver formerly from the Wisconsin Badgers will have a shot to show K.C. what he’s capable of.
Dekel Crowdus Earns Invite to Chiefs’ Rookie Minicamp
Since trading Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs have struggled to find a consistent No. 1 option at wide receiver for Patrick Mahomes. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy both have upside, but neither has been able to develop the sort of consistency that helped Hill turn into one of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL.
Speed can help you go a long way with Kansas City, and that is precisely what Dekel Crowdus is known for. During his four-year collegiate career, Crowdus spent time with the Kentucky Wildcats and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors before latching on with Wisconsin. The problem for Crowdus is that he did virtually nothing for the Badgers in 2025, as he picked up just one catch that went for no gain in nine games of action.
Crowdus’ best season came in 2024 with Hawaii, when he caught 16 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns. While it wasn’t against top-tier competition, Crowdus proved himself to be a big-play threat who can rip off a huge gain in the blink of an eye. So while he doesn’t exactly have much of a track record to go by from his college days, Crowdus’ potential earned him an invite to Kansas City’s rookie minicamp.
“Congrats to Dekel Crowdus on earning a rookie minicamp invite from the Chiefs!” the Badgers wrote in a post on X.
Dekel Crowdus Faces Long Odds to Stick with the Chiefs

Crowdus has upside, but folks have to be realistic when discussing his prospects of sticking with K.C. Not only was Crowdus not drafted, but he also wasn’t signed as an undrafted free agent. With so little production to his name from his college days, Crowdus is an unknown, so he will have to put together some good reps during his time in Kansas City.
Even if Crowdus manages to earn a contract with the Chiefs, he would likely be battling for a practice squad spot during training camp, and even accomplishing that may be a big ask for him. Crowdus’ speed makes him a player you always have to keep tabs on, but it remains to be seen if that alone will be enough to help him carve out a role in the NFL.
