Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are fast approaching their rumored wedding date, but the timing of the nuptials has started to stir up some controversy.
The couple is rumored to be tying the knot in June, with reports indicating they chose a swanky venue in Rhode Island, not far from a home the singer owns there. But the date may clash with one of Swift’s famous recent relationships, drawing some unwanted attention for the singer and the Kansas City Chiefs star.
Taylor Swift Gets Reminder of Relationships Past
As Radar Online reported, Swift and Kelce’s wedding will take place within weeks of Matty Healy, who briefly dated the singer.
“According to reports circulating within entertainment circles, Swift and Kelce are expected to marry on 13 June at the Ocean House resort in Rhode Island,” the report noted. “The pair began dating in 2023 and became one of pop culture’s most closely watched couples before reportedly becoming engaged last year. Meanwhile, Healy proposed to [Gabbriette] Bechtel in 2024, and their wedding is believed to be scheduled for July, with guests expected to travel to California for the ceremony.”
The timing has “revived” interest in Swift’s relationship with Healy, the report noted. The short-lived relationship provided much inspiration for Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” album in 2024, which is believed to have several non-flattering references to her time with Healy.
Kelce and Swift have been very tight-lipped about their wedding, not revealing any details or confirming the rumored date. USA Today’s Allison Tibaldi filled in some of the blanks, sharing information about their rumored wedding venue.
Tibaldi confirmed that the date of Kelce and Swift’s rumored wedding is blocked off at Ocean House, and shared some details of the venue fit for one of the most-followed wedding events in years.
“It’s situated on one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen, a serene stretch of white sand fringed with dune grass,” Tibaldi wrote. “While I’ve never been to a wedding at Ocean House, it’s not hard to imagine how appealing a beach wedding would be. If Swift doesn’t want a sandy ceremony, the manicured South Lawn with its impressive ocean views would be equally stunning.”
Wedding Date Could Clear Way for Travis Kelce’s Return
It’s not clear if Swift and Kelce had any knowledge of Healy’s plans when setting their own wedding date, but they may have had Kelce’s career in mind. The future Hall of Fame tight end has not announced yet whether he will retire or return to the team, but the rumored wedding date in mid-June would allow him to spend some time as a newlywed without conflicting with training camp, which starts late the next month.
Kelce appears to be leaning toward a return to the Chiefs, one insider shared. In a radio appearance this week, ESPN reporter Nate Taylor shared that Kelce does plan to play another season.
“He’s coming back, guys,” Taylor reported. “Every indication I’ve gotten is that Travis Kelce is looking forward to coming back. When we’ll know that for sure? That’s really his prerogative.”
