When Taylor Swift wasn’t cheering on Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2025-26 season, she was busy doing the media round for her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which dropped on October 13. The album even features a Kelce-inspired song called “Wood” that got the world talking.
On Sunday, January 4, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs played their final game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders on the road. Swift wasn’t there, because he rarely attends away games due to security concerns, but she was surely watching from afar. The Chiefs had a 6-10 record going into the showdown, and the Raiders were are 2-14 for the season, but the game ended with a Chiefs loss, 14-12.
Amid the excitement of the Kansas City Chiefs’ season finale, Swift quietly made news of her own. Even though her album is months old at this point, it’s still breaking records, and she’s still make headlines with it.
Taylor Swift Reaches New Milestone
As for this week, Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” has returned to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking its ninth total week at No. 1. By the numbers, “The Fate of Ophelia” scored 18.3 million official streams, up 9% from the previous week, and 60.7 million radio airplay audience impressions, up 12%. It also sold 30,000 units, up 779%, in the United States for the week of December 26 through January 1.
“The Fate of Ophelia” is the top single off Swift’s new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which has also notched 12 weeks on top of the Billboard 200, with nine weeks at No. 1. Also, during the course of the album’s cycle, “The Fate of Ophelia” surpassed Swift’s “Anti-Hero” to become her longest-leading song.
Now, according to research from Billboard, “The Fate of Ophelia” went back to No. 1 on the Hot 100 from No. 28 as holiday songs declined. It makes sense that Christmas music would dominate the charts in December.
So, Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ is her biggest No. 1 hit ever, proving that she’s not slowing down.
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Continues to Get Asked About Retirement
Meanwhile, Swift’s future husband Kelce keeps getting asked about if he’ll retire after this season.
“I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce said before the Chiefs’ December 25 game in a pre-recorded interview that aired on Amazon’s Prime Video. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth.” That last part refers to the Chiefs’ losing season.
Kelce added of his decision, “I feel motivated but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I’ve got to hope that if I do wanna come back that the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
Kelce has played 13 seasons in the NFL, all of them with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN research, following being drafted by the Chiefs in 2013. That’s a long career for a player in the NFL, and it will mark a significant decision whether or not he stays.
