While Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ponders his NFL future, the pending retirement decision is being overshadowed by some drama involving wife-to-be Taylor Swift.
Kelce left his NFL future up in the air as the Chiefs saw their season come to a disappointing end, with the team being eliminated from playoff contention in early December and finishing the season 6-11. Kelce has kept a relatively low profile since the conclusion of the season, with Swift’s inadvertent legal drama now taking center stage.
Taylor Swift’s Private Texts Go Public
Swift became an unwilling participant in legal drama between friend Blake Lively and her “It Ends With Us” director Justin Baldoni when private text messages to Lively were made public. The texts were uncovered in unsealed documents filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan this week and published by CNN, showing Lively airing concerns about Baldoni in an exchange with Swift.
Lively referred to Baldoni as her “doofus director,” CNN reported, and Swift later shared her concerns just before a story was published that revealed dueling claims of sexual harassment.
“I think this [expletive] knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin,” Swift texted Lively in response to an article about Baldoni being “sexually traumatized” in his past.
Swift’s texts prompted a response from Lively’s legal team, which claimed that it showed Lively had longstanding concerns about Baldoni. But the director’s legal team believed it instead vindicated their client.
“A simple read of the newly released message exchanges make the truth abundantly clear. We remain confident in the legal process and clearing the names of all of the Justin Baldoni parties,” noted Bryan Freedman, a lawyer for Baldoni.
Travis Kelce Drops Hints About Retirement
While both Kelce and Swift have been avoiding the spotlight after the NFL season ended, the Chiefs tight end is still publishing his “New Heights” podcast and may have dropped a hint about his plans for the future.
The team announced that Eric Bieniemy would return to his role as offensive coordinator, prompting an excited reply from Kelce.
“I love that, shit. I think it’s great,” Kelce said, via CBS Sports.
Kelce also expressed excitement about seeing Bieniemy again, which many took as a hint that Kelce planned to come back for another season.
“I can’t wait to see him back in the building,” Kelce said. “He’s one of my favorite coaches of all-time, one of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player, as a person, and I just love the guy and it’s going to be awesome to see him back in the building and see him back wearing the Chiefs logo, baby.”
If Kelce does return to the Chiefs, he may be without one of his closest friends and longtime teammates. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL in the playoff elimination game in December, leading to a long and potentially complicated recovery. It is not yet clear if Mahomes will be back in time to start the season.
