The Kansas City Chiefs and tight end Travis Kelce are wrapping up their season with a game on Sunday, January 4, against the 2-14 Las Vegas Raiders on the road. The team’s final game at Arrowhead Stadium for the year was on December 25, and they dropped that game, with the Denver Broncos taking it with a 20-13 final score.
So, Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are playing not only the final game of the season but also what may be the final game of Kelce’s NFL career. His future wife Taylor Swift usually only attends home games, but either way, she’ll at least be watching on TV to see Kelce on the field.
Now, even with all of the excitement of the Chiefs’ final game of the season, Swift is making news. The past year was a big one for Swift, because not only did she get engaged to Kelce in August, but the musician also released her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on October 13. Now, that album continues to make history.
Taylor Swift Makes News During Kansas City Chiefs’ Final Game of the Season
On exactly the same day as the Kansas City Chiefs’ final game of the season, Swift made news on the Billboard charts. Her “The Life of a Showgirl” album has netted its 12th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, dated January 11, 2026, with 81,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending January 1, down 42%, according to Luminate research, and as reported by Billboard.
“The Life of a Showgirl marks Swift’s sole second-longest run at No. 1,” Billboard adds in a feature out on Sunday, January 4. “It surpasses the 11-week reigns of 1989 (2014-15) and Fearless (2008-09). Only The Tortured Poets Department, with 17 weeks at No. 1 in 2024, has more weeks atop the list among Swift’s 15 No. 1 albums, the most leaders among soloists.”
So, Swift’s new album continues to top the charts, even weeks and months after it was released. It just shows her star power.
Speaking on the “New Heights” podcast, hosted by Travis and his brother Jason Kelce, Swift said of the album back in August of 2025, “I wanted melodies that were so infectious that you were almost angry at it and lyrics that are just as vivid, but crisp and focused and completely intentional.”
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce and His Retirement Decision
Before the Chiefs’ December 25 game, Kelce spoke about his future in a pre-recorded interview that aired on Amazon’s Prime Video. Speaking with Tony Gonzalez, he was asked if he was retiring.
“I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce said on the show. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth. I feel motivated but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I’ve got to hope that if I do wanna come back that the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
He added, “I know when it’s over, it’s over. I feel like I still have a lot of love for this game, I feel like if I came back it’d just be to answer that flame in my heart that I still love this thing.” So, it’s decision time, and Kelce has a big one.
