Now that Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs have officially wrapped up their season, following a 14-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, January 4, on the road. Even though the team lost in their final game, it didn’t sting as much as one would expect, because they were out of the playoffs anyway, plus the Chiefs were without their franchise quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who’s injured.
Now, it’s time for Kelce to make a decision. Will he retire and start his post-NFL life with his future wife, Taylor Swift, or will he stay for one more go at getting another championship with the Kansas City Chiefs?
Kelce has opened up about retirement before. “I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce said regarding retirement before the Kansas City Chiefs’ December 25 game in a pre-recorded interview that aired on Amazon’s Prime Video. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth.”
Kelce added, “I feel motivated but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I’ve got to hope that if I do wanna come back that the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
Following the loss to the Raiders, Kelce opened up to reporters about the timeline for his retirement decision.
Travis Kelce Discuses Retirement After Kansas City Chiefs Loss
After the Raiders game, Kelce was available to talk to the media, and he discussed how he felt after another defeat. He said the loss didn’t sour him at all. “I’m proud the way we finished, even though it ended the way it did,” he said. “Guys showed up, gave it their all, and that’s all you can ask for.”
Then, when he was asked about when he might make the decision, Kelce said that it would be different from last year. He knew his decision early last year, he said, but that wasn’t the case this time. So, he’s saying that it will likely take longer.
“Who knows?” Kelce told reporters. “Who knows? It either hits me quick or I’ve got to take some time. Last year, it was a little bit easier. I think I knew right away, I wanted to give this [year] a shot. We’ll see.”
If Kelce does retire, even if it’s on a sour note, he has plenty of reason to be proud. Kelce has made the Pro Bowl 11 times during his 13 seasons with the Chiefs, and he’s achieved numerous awards and accolades, include multiple championships.
Kudos for Travis Kelce’s Future Wife Taylor Swift
Kelce’s future wife, Swift, released her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on October 13. The album debuted on top of the Billboard 200 when it was released and broke records from the start.
“I wanted melodies that were so infectious that you were almost angry at it and lyrics that are just as vivid, but crisp and focused and completely intentional,” Swift said of the album on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
Swift’s album debuted with more than four million equivalent units to make it the highest debut ever. It beat the previous recordholder, Adele with “25,” which debuted with just less than 3.5 million units.
