Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got a double dose of “back in the day” ahead of the team’s second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
First, new Chiefs quarterback Justin Fields made the 36-year-old Kelce feel his age with a comment about Blink-182. Then, Kelce got a much more welcome reminder of his past when he met up with wrestling legend Ric Flair after Kansas City arrived in Tampa.
The two moments came as the Chiefs transitioned out of training camp and prepared to face the Buccaneers on Saturday.
Justin Fields Gives Travis Kelce a ‘Back in the Day’ Reality Check
Kelce brought up attending a Blink-182 concert during a lighthearted exchange with Fields that the Chiefs shared Friday on their official X account.
Fields, 27, appeared unfamiliar with the band before delivering a response Kelce wasn’t about to ignore.
“I don’t know what that is. That must be good back in the day,” Fields said.
Kelce immediately pushed back.
“What? Back in the day? You were definitely alive, for sure. You can’t say back in the day like that,” Kelce replied.
Fields was born in 1999, the same year Blink-182 released the album “Enema of the State,” which included songs such as “What’s My Age Again?” and “All the Small Things.”
The exchange also showed the relationship developing between Kelce and one of Kansas City’s newest players. Fields joined the Chiefs this offseason and has worked behind Patrick Mahomes throughout training camp, including taking first-team reps when Mahomes has been limited.
Fields played nine games for the Chicago Bears in 2025, recording an 89.5 passer rating with 1,259 passing yards, seven touchdowns and one interception.
The Future Hall-of-Famer Gets Another Throwback Moment With Ric Flair
Kelce’s second trip into the past came after the Chiefs arrived in Tampa on Friday night.
Kelce, head coach Andy Reid and defensive tackle Chris Jones met with Flair, who shared a photo of the group on social media.
“Hanging With The Big Boys In Tampa! It Doesn’t Get Better Than This! Andy Reid, The Nature Boy, And @tkelce! Go @Chiefs! LFG! WOOOOO!” Flair wrote.
The meeting brought back memories of one of Kelce’s celebrations from more than a decade ago.
During his first full season with Kansas City in 2014, Kelce caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith in the Chiefs’ 22-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on October 5.
Kelce celebrated by emulating Flair and finishing with the former wrestler’s signature “WOOOO!!”
“There’s another little dance by Kelce,” CBS Sports broadcaster Phil Simms said during the game.
Kelce has shown his interest in professional wrestling at other points during his Chiefs career. He also channeled Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson after Kansas City defeated Cincinnati in the AFC Championship Game in January 2023, calling Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval a “jabroni.”
