Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is making an important retirement decision about whether or not to return to the NFL for the 2026-27 season, and he’s expressed that he doesn’t like the idea of leaving on a low note. The Kansas City Chiefs, of course, had a difficult season and ended the year with a 6-11 record and no trip to the postseason.
So, Kelce is making a retirement decision, and he’s already addressed that it’s not going to be an easy one. “I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce said when asked about his retirement dilemma by Tony Gonzalez ahead of the Chiefs’ game on Christmas Day against the Denver Broncos. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth.”
He added at the time, “I feel motivated, but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I’ve got to hope that if I do want to come back, the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
But, even though the Chiefs didn’t have the best season, Kelce still has a lot to be proud about when it comes to his full career. Now, a special Kelce stats is getting attention as Super Bowl LX draws near.
Travis Kelce Stat Gets Attention, Even With Kansas City Chiefs Out of Super Bowl LX
Kelce and the Chiefs were in the big game last year, and Kelce made NFL history in that matchup. On Tuesday, February 3, StatMuse took to X to send out a reminder about Kelce’s historic moment last season.
“Players with 30+ receptions in Super Bowl history: Travis Kelce and Jerry Rice,” they stated on X. “End of list.”
“Outstanding,” one follower replied with red and yellow heart emojis. “Best tight end and best wide receiver ever, makes perfect sense to me,” another added.
During last year’s Super Bowl, on February 8, 2025, the Kansas City Chiefs also announced Kelce’s happy news.
“No player in 59 seasons has racked up as many receptions as Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has in the Super Bowl,” Grant Gordon of the Chiefs’ website stated at the time “Kelce, on his third catch Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, surpassed Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the most catches in Super Bowl history — though the record was soured as it came in the fourth quarter of a 40-22 loss.”

Gordon also noted at the time, “Inarguably one of the finest postseason players in NFL chronicle, Kelce entered Sunday with 350 Super Bowl receiving yards (fourth in history), 174 postseason catches (first), 2,039 postseason receiving yards (second) and 20 receiving TDs (second).”
“Forever cemented in Super Bowl lore, Kelce has added another record to his collection even in a losing cause,” Gordon added, referring to the Chiefs losing the Super Bowl in 2025 to the Eagles.
Frankly, because of the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl last year, Kelce’s stat was a bit overshadowed. So, it’s nice to see him get some props for the numbers now.
