Before the 2026 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs made the difficult decision to trade away one of their best young stars, cornerback Trent McDuffie.
In a blockbuster deal with the Los Angeles Rams, the Chiefs traded McDuffie in exchange for four draft picks: the 29th overall pick in 2026, along with fifth and sixth-round picks, and a 2027 third-rounder.
Soon after the deal went through, McDuffie, who was entering the final year of his rookie deal, signed a new four-year, $124 million contract with the Rams. He’s now the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

McDuffie sent a heartfelt message to Chiefs Kingdom after the trade, as did his girlfriend, Gabby Esposito. The Chiefs’ No. 21 overall pick from the 2022 NFL draft had spent his entire NFL career in Kansas City. The All-Pro corner won two Super Bowl championships with the franchise.
While McDuffie and Esposito get settled in LA, they shared exciting news on May 3 that drew attention from their former Chiefs family.

McDuffie revealed he proposed to Esposito on Sunday. The couple wrote in a shared Instagram post, “The best part of me, forever💍✨.”
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who’s set to marry Taylor Swift this summer, was thrilled. He wrote, “Let’s goooo!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻.” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes added, “Congrats!!,” while his wife, Brittany Mahomes, commented, “Ahhh congrats guys!!!🫶🏼.”
Former Chiefs players Leo Chenal, Justin Reid, L’Jarius Sneed, and Carson Steele also sent messages of congratulations.

Esposito, who first went public with her relationship with McDuffie in May 2024, shared an emotional message before packing up for Los Angeles.
She wrote in part, “First and foremost, I will forever be in debt to the whole Chiefs organization for trading up for Trent in the draft, bringing him to Kansas City on the lucky chance of meeting the love of my life. There was something truly so special about watching the person I love live out his dreams in the city I call home + that is a feeling I’ll carry with me forever…
“And to my Chiefs girliesss, my heart hurts. the friendships and bonds we’ve built are some of my favorites that I can only hope don’t go away with distance. I’ll miss you all tremendously but will forever cherish all of the laughs, game days, + countless tequila shots.”
