The Las Vegas Raiders have interviewed many coaches with diverse backgrounds for their head coaching job. One of the more eye-opening candidates the team was San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak.

The Raiders have been more heavily linked to his brother, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, but Klay Kubiak is also an up-and-coming name. However, he’s only been coaching at the NFL level since 2021 and hasn’t called plays.

It appears that Kubiak thinks he needs some more experience before becoming a head coach. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Kubiak has pulled his name out of head coaching searches.

The Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers were the only teams that had shown interest in him. Las Vegas never interviewed him a second time, so they may not have realistically been considering him.

Kubiak has a bright future, but learning under Kyle Shanahan is very valuable. He has one of the strongest coaching trees in the NFL. Kubiak’s next step would be to accept an offensive coordinator role where he calls plays.

It doesn’t look like he’d be interested in moving on from San Francisco in any capacity, but he could be a hot offensive coordinator candidate for other teams next year.

Raiders Planning Second Interview With Davis Webb

Being a proven playcaller hasn’t been a prerequisite for the Raiders’ head coaching search. The team is trying to find somebody who can be a great leader. Playcalling ability would be a plus.

Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb appears to be gaining some steam for the Raiders job. They already interviewed him once, but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Las Vegas is planning to meet with Webb a second time.

The Raiders seem to like him a lot. It’s possible that once he meets with the team again, they might not let him leave the building without an agreement.

Raiders Also Interested in Klint Kubiak & Vance Joseph

Webb definitely has the Raiders’ interest, but he’s not the only coach. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Klint Kubiak and Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph are in the mix.

“The Raiders have at least two, potentially three, candidates whose teams will play Sunday,” Rapoport wrote. “Sources say they are looking into scheduling another interview with Broncos offensive passing game coordinator Davis Webb, who is considered a strong candidate. Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph have interest, as well. Webb has not yet been a coordinator, but his experience as an NFL QB, along with his leadership abilities, make him an attractive candidate.

“The belief is Las Vegas is looking for a younger, offensive coach, and Kubiak — a top coordinator — and Webb fit that bill. Kubiak was also a strong candidate for the Falcons’ vacancy before they hired former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Kubiak, Joseph and Webb have completed virtual interviews with Las Vegas.”

While Joseph appears to have a chance, it sounds like the Raiders prefer to go with a coach who has an offensive background, which could mean that the team is planning to push for either Kubiak or Webb.
