T

he Los Angeles Chargers are off to a strong start in 2025, beating the Kansas City Chiefs in week one to begin the campaign at 1-0. Hungrier than ever to make a Super Bowl run, and entering the season as contenders, each win will be pivotal in the Chargers‘ quest for glory. But as week two approaches, the Chargers may be without one of their most important players for their matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Linebacker Denzel Perryman, who left Sept. 5th’s win with an ankle injury and did not return to the game, has a high ankle sprain and could miss time. After the game, Perryman was in a walking boot but still in good spirits.

Perryman’s Injury

First reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Perryman is considered week-to-week with the injury but as is the case with most players that suffer a similar injury, he is in danger of missing time. Generally, injuries like Perryman’s can sideline a player anywhere from four to six weeks.

Perryman only played eight snaps in the game before leaving, and him being out is detrimental to the Chargers‘ defense. One of the most well-respected and beloved veterans on the team, the 32-year-old Perryman still brings a lot of value, finishing with 55 total tackles in his first season back with the Chargers in 2024– missing six games due to an injury as well.

Perryman’s Career

Drafted by the Chargers franchise in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Perryman spent the first six seasons of his career with the team before leaving in free agency. Spending the 2021 and ’22 seasons with the Raiders, Perryman put together his best season as a pro during the ’21 season, recording a career high of 154 total tackles in 15 games played. For his strong season, Perryman earned Pro Bowl honors and played a big role in helping the Raiders clinch a spot in the playoffs.

After his contract expired following the ’22 season, Perryman joined the Houston Texans on a one-year deal for the 2023 season, ending the season with 76 tackles, six tackles for loss, half a sack and three passes defended in 12 games played– suspended for two games due to repeated violations of initiating contact with his helmet. Perryman rejoined the Chargers ahead of 2024 on a one-year deal and after a productive campaign, he earned another one-year deal for 2025.
