The NFL may be down one Harbaugh on the sidelines, but Jim Harbaugh made it clear Wednesday that his brother won’t be unemployed for long.
Just one day after the Baltimore Ravens fired longtime head coach John Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach forcefully defended his brother while speaking with reporters.
He called the decision surprising and praised John as the best coach he’s ever seen.
“John Harbaugh’s the best coach I know, the best coach I’ve ever seen,” Jim said.
“I’m his brother, so I might be biased, but whatever team he goes to is going to be formidable. I just hope it’s in the NFC.”
Jim Harbaugh admitted he was caught off guard by Baltimore’s move after 18 seasons and a Super Bowl title.
But Jim knows that John will quickly become one of the most sought-after names in the coaching market.

Jim didn’t hold back when asked about his brother’s future.
He confidently predicted John will be back on an NFL sideline next season.
“He’ll be a head coach next year,” Jim said. “We’ll be playing against him in some form or fashion.”
John Harbaugh leaves Baltimore with nearly 200 career wins, multiple AFC Championship Game appearances, and a Super Bowl ring.
Jim knows what is brother is fully capable and knows that his resume speaks for itself.
“It’s great seeing the outpouring of support,” Jim added.
“It’s so cool to see all my brother’s accomplishments recognized.”
With several head coaching jobs already open across the league, Jim’s belief is that whichever organization lands John will be getting what he called “a gift.”
Right now, the Giants, Browns, Cardinals, Raiders, Falcons and Titans have head coach openings.
Early rumors have linked the Giants and Falcons to be in aggressive pursuit of John.
Jim Shuts Down John Harbaugh Joining Chargers
Given the timing of the firing and the Chargers preparing for a playoff run, Jim was also asked whether his brother could potentially help in LA temporarily.
Jim’s answer was direct.
“He’ll be a head coach next year,” he reiterated, shutting down any idea of John joining his staff, even in an advisory role.
For now, Jim Harbaugh’s focus remains squarely on getting the Chargers ready for their Wild Card matchup against the Patriots.
LA will travel to New England on Friday to get ready for their matchup on Sunday night.
But the respect, confidence, and loyalty Jim has showed toward his brother sent a clear message around the league.
