Wide receiver Mike Williams retired last week and left an open position for the Los Angeles Chargers’ receiver room.
Williams was signed to a one-year deal to compete for the WR2 spot in his return to Los Angeles. With him calling it a career, the Bolts will need to begin looking for other options.
CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan named 2025 NFL Draft pick Tre Harris as an under-the-radar rookie heading into training camp.
“The Chargers struck gold last season by trading up to select Ladd McConkey in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The wideout went on to have a tremendous rookie season, topping a 1,000 yards receiving to go along with 80-plus receptions and seven touchdowns. Now they’re hoping lightning strikes twice after they selected Tre Harris in the second round this past spring out of Ole Miss,” Sullivan wrote for CBS Sports.
“It was abundantly clear during Los Angeles’ playoff loss last year that the franchise desperately needs another pass-catcher for Justin Herbert. With Mike Williams retiring before training camp and Quentin Johnston having not yet lived up to his first-round status from 2023, it presents a great opportunity for Harris to emerge as that WR2 in this offense.”
Harris recorded 3,532 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns during his five-year collegiate career at Louisiana Tech and Ole Miss. In his final collegiate season, he logged 1,030 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns.
Harris was named the 11th-best wide receiver in the draft by Pro Football Focus.
Praise from Justin Herbert

The Chargers will have to look elsewhere for production from their wide receiver group.
Quarterback Justin Herbert was asked by a reporter on day 5 of training camp about what he has seen from third-round selection Tre Harris.
“He’s a playmaker,” Herbert said. “He runs really crisp routes and he’s picked up the offense well, too. You know that when you go out there, he’s going to run the right route and you don’t have to worry about that. Sometimes that’s a thing with rookies.”
Head coach Jim Harbaugh calls the wide receiver room “competitive” and says that Harris is “popping every single day.”
The former Ole Miss Rebel said he has been learning as much as possible during his time with the team.
Tre Harris Signs Rookie Contract

Tre Harris was the only Bolt rookie left to sign their contract before the start of training camp.
Harris and Bolts were able to agree to a contract just before rookies had to report to training camp, after the first two selections in the second round were given fully guaranteed contracts.
Details have come out about the rookie’s signing with Los Angeles.
According to Over the Cap, the wide receiver signed a four-year, $7.35 million contract with $5,578,241 in guarantees.
With contract talks now done, Harris can fully focus on training camp and the possibility of becoming wide receiver 2 in his rookie season,
