Davante Adams was emotional following the Los Angeles Rams’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game, and there has been speculation about his future after 12 seasons and a 0-5 record in the round.

However, those emotions could portend to another go-round for Adams, the regular-season leader in touchdown receptions in 2025, in LA.

That is, at least, what the Rams expect heading into a potentially pivotal offseason cycle.

Rams’ Sean McVay Makes Bold Claim About Davante Adams

During his season-ending press conference, Rams head coach Sean McVay fielded a question about whether or not he expects wide receiver Davante Adams back in the fold for the 2026 campaign.

McVay said that he “absolutely” expects Adams to return next season, and has been given no reason to suspect otherwise from the six-time Pro Bowler.

Adams is entering the final year of a two-year, $44 million contract.

However, the Rams will have a decision to make, with Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti noting in an article from January that “Adams’s 2026 roster bonus is already fully guaranteed. Processing a simple salary conversion (including this roster bonus and adding void years), can open up over $18M of space.”

The Rams are in fine shape financially, particularly after the NFL announced it expects the salary cap to surpass $300 million for the first time in league history in 2026. Still, every bit of savings bodes well for bolstering the roster.

Surely, if Adams comes back, he and the Rams do not want to suffer another disappointing postseason exit.

Davante Adams Emotional After NFC Championship Game Loss

Adams had four receptions for 89 yards and 1 touchdown in the Rams’ 31-27 loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. Still, it was not enough to help them advance to the Super Bowl, which would have been Adams’ first.

He previously called the Super Bowl a “mythical thing.” After the NFCCG, he felt “heartbreak.”

“It’s tough. It’s tough to talk, honestly, Adams told reporters. “Obviously, I love this team, love what this team is about, and the fight that we had all year, and it just sucks to come up short.”

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who led the team to a Super Bowl win in 2021, said that he felt especially for teammates like Adams, who is “deserving” of that kind of opportunity, calling it the “hardest part” about the loss.

“As a quarterback, I feel like I’m responsible for so many guys on our team and so much of the success of our team,” Stafford said on the “Let’s Go!” podcast in January. “You want to go win those games to give the people that haven’t experienced what you got to experience, you want to give them that. I wasn’t able to do it.

“That’s a tough pill for me to swallow.”

Davante Adams a Key Offseason Domino

Stafford’s future is as much up in the air as Adams’, if not more so, leaving the Rams in limbo until one or both players make their final decisions about whether they will play in 2026.

Adams lauded Stafford, and the duo showed a strong connection early on together. That bond figures to grow even stronger with another, hopefully healthy, offseason and training camp together.

That is, assuming both players return as is the growing expectation.
