Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams spent several seasons with Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers. As a result, the veteran wideout is the perfect person to ask regarding what he believes his former Green Bay Packers teammate will do in terms of his future.
After the Houston Texans eliminated the Steelers in their wild-card matchup, attention turned to Rodgers and whether he intends to play again in the NFL. The Pittsburgh QB is on a one-year contract and will be a free agent in the coming weeks.
Moreover, the Steelers announced that head coach Mike Tomlin will step down. Amid the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers, Adams appeared on the Jan. 13 edition of “Up & Adams” and was asked about the former Packers star playing next season.
“I’m heartbroken for him because I know how much he wants it, and I know how much he deserves it,” Adams told host Kay Adams. “To see that game end that way—that’s not how any of us saw it happening. I definitely don’t want his career to end that way. That’s one of my best friends, so that hurts me, hurts my heart a little bit to watch.
“But ultimately, just hoping that there’s something left there for him to continue going. I just want to see him happy and at least finish the way he deserves to finish. I can’t say I don’t know what’s going to happen, and certainly haven’t gotten an answer from him on what he’s going to do, nor am I pressing him about trying to get an answer—just letting him go through his process.”
Davante Adams Believes Aaron Rodgers Can Still Play
Moreover, Adams believes that Rodgers can still play at a high level and compares him to his current Rams QB, Matthew Stafford, in terms of the toughness they show at their age, which allows them to perform at a high level.
“He can still move around, too; that’s the thing,” Adams added. “I see [people retiring Rodgers], and it makes me sick, because just knowing him and what everybody should know about him at this point is, I mean, you talk about Matthew Stafford and toughness. This dude is, I mean, he learned from Brett Favre.
“So he’s just as much Ironman as anybody who’s ever played this game. And I got so much respect for how he’s done it. Just the fact that he’s just been his self throughout this whole thing. I got nothing but cheers for him, no matter what happens.”
Rams Will Need Davante Adams to Advance to NFC title Game
Adams will look to help the Rams advance to the NFC title game against an opponent he knows very well: The Chicago Bears. The Rams veteran pass-catcher has had 88 catches for 1,081 yards and has scored 10 touchdowns in 17 games versus the Bears in his career, per StatMuse.
In the win over the Panthers, Adams also played a significant role, recording five receptions for 72 receiving yards. However, he might need to improve those numbers if the Rams want to get past the Bears, who pulled off a comeback win over the Packers.
