The Los Angeles Rams have been on Matthew Stafford watch throughout training camp, as the veteran quarterback has missed quite a bit of time with a concerning back injury. Thankfully, he has managed to return to the practice field, and he should be ready to go by the time Week 1 of the 2025 campaign rolls around.

With Stafford on the field, the Rams figure to have a shot to win every game they take the field for. However, he alone can’t win games for his team, which is why the front office was aggressive in retooling their roster this offseason. Los Angeles’ roster construction is still a work in progress, even with the regular season drawing near, as the team announced a pair of roster moves on Wednesday.

Rams Sign John Leglue, Release Mario Williams

Protecting Stafford is going to be key in 2025, especially as he deals with his mysterious back injury. That’s why the team is working on beefing up its offensive line depth, as the team signed John Leglue to shore up the position. A former undrafted free agent from the 2019 NFL Draft, Leglue has spent time with six different teams over the course of his career.

While Leglue has been in the league for a couple of years now, he’s only played in six games, with five of them being starts during the 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite holding his own during his time on the field. Leglue has struggled to find a consistent home in the NFL, and he will now be hoping to carve out a spot for himself with L.A.

Of course, when one person comes to town, another is headed out the exit door. In this case, that player was undrafted rookie wide receiver Mario Williams. After dealing with an undisclosed ailment during training camp, Los Angeles released Williams with an injury settlement in order to open up a roster spot for Leglue.

Signed OL John Leglue to active roster. Waived WR Mario Williams with an injury settlement,” the Rams transaction log read.

Can John Leglue Crack the Rams’ 53-Man Roster?

While Leglue has starting experience, anytime a player signs with a team this close to the start of the season, their chances of making the 53-man roster are always going to be slim. Leglue’s best shot of sticking around is by latching on with the Rams‘ practice squad, but he will have to catch the coaching staff’s attention in order to have a shot at doing so.

For now, Los Angeles’ offensive line is in pretty good shape, but injuries are bound to pop up throughout the course of the season, which is why it’s important to have depth options available across the roster. Leglue will have a chance to prove he can help the Rams out in 2025, and if he can put together some good tape over the next few days, he could increase his chances of staying in town past the end of training camp.
