The Los Angeles Rams have been knocked out of the playoffs after losing to divisional rivals the Seattle Seahawks, 27-31, in the NFC Championship game that ended with the Rams moving downfield in the dying seconds before the clock hit zero.

This is the third time the Rams have been knocked out of the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl in the 2021 season.

Now out of the playoffs and looking at the 2026 season, some players are contemplating retirement or giving it one last go.

The 2025 NFL season wasn’t the best for Rob Havenstein.

The right tackle played the first seven games of the season before dealing with an ankle injury that put him on injured reserve.

Havenstein was on track to return to the team if the Rams made it to the Super Bowl, as the team opened up his 21-day period to be elevated to the 53-man roster and was a limited participant in practice in the lead-up to the NFC Championship game.

But after the loss to the Seahawks, the longtime Ram won’t get another opportunity to add a second ring to his collection.

Now looking at the future of his career, the offensive lineman is unsure if he wants to play one more season or decide to hang up the gloves.

“I’d be lying to you if I said I haven’t,” Havenstein responded when asked if he was contemplating retirement. “But you know, that’s something I’m going to continue to think about and we’ll go from there… [It’s] for the love of the game and what’s best for my family. I’ve done a lot over these 11 years, been around some amazing people, had a lot of great memories and I’m going to carry it with me forever.”

“Love this game, love this place, love the Rams. I appreciate Sean [McVay] and everything he’s done. It was tough. It’s been tough.”

Havenstein is one of the last remaining players on the Rams who was with the team back when they were still playing in St. Louis.

A former second-round draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Havenstein has played in every single game in a season three times during his 11-year career, with the last one coming in the 2022 season.

Rob Havenstein has had two official head coaches throughout his 11-year career: Jeff Fisher and Sean McVay.

If the right tackle decides to call it a career, Havenstein has received a lot of praise from his longtime coach of 9 years in McVay, under whom he won a Super Bowl.

“Rob and Tyler [Higbee], these are rare humans,” McVay said, via CBS. “They’re great football players, but they’re great leaders, and they have such respect from the locker room… You look at the wisdom that Rob has in the meeting room to pour into Warren [McClendon Jr.] and really our offensive line as a whole. These are two all-time guys. These are legacy Rams. Obviously, they’re special to me.”

The Rams will be without veteran and experienced leadership if Havenstein retires. But there is a small door of opportunity for the player as he is at the end of his three-year deal.

If he returns, he will likely sign a one-year team-friendly contract.
