Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams will ring in the postseason as the first contest on Wild Card weekend, facing the Carolina Panthers on the road. But the QB’s eventful week is already off to a strong start.
First, Stafford earned the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Then, the Rams saw wide receiver Davante Adams continue his progress, setting the stage for a return from a hamstring injury.
In his latest feat, the QB took home another in-season honor.

The NFL announced in a post on X on January 8 that Stafford was the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Month for December, after the Rams star led the league with 1,634 passing yards. Stafford also threw 14 touchdowns to 4 interceptions on 62.2% completion.
“It’s Stafford’s second-consecutive NFC Offensive Player of the Month award, having also earned it for his performance in November,” TheRams.com’s Stu Jackson wrote in the team’s official release on the honor. “Stafford is the only quarterback to win a Player of the Month award twice this season.”
That Stafford and the Rams went 3-2 during that stretch is also notable.
Despite a winning mark, the Rams’ two losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks stood out more than their two wins versus the Arizona Cardinals or their win over the Detroit Lions.
Stafford completed the season leading the league in touchdown passes (46) and passing yards (4,797), setting new career-high marks in both metrics. The Rams’ 12-5 record is their best since the 2021 season, when they went on to win the Super Bowl.

Despite his strong performance during the regular season, the 2025 MVP remains uncertain. Stafford slipped behind Drake Maye of the New England Patriots. Those two losses in primetime to the Falcons and Seahawks proved especially costly.
However, Stafford received a strong endorsement from legendary former QB, fellow Super Bowl champion, and current Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.
Brady, who does not have a vote, said the Rams star should be the MVP.
“They both had incredible years. I just see Matt Stafford as a Hall of Fame-level quarterback that has played his best season of football, and he’s done it in any conditions. 46 touchdown passes. He’s just been incredible, and I just love the way he leads his team,” Brady told Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” on January 8.
And there’s no bad choice at this point. You’re talking about some of the best players in a league. But Matt is, in my opinion, he’s just really exceeded everyone’s expectations this season. And what an incredible quarterback–what a career he’s had.”
Of course, the MVP is a single-season honor–which Brady won three times during his playing career–not a career achievement.

Stafford may not take home the league’s MVP award despite the support he has received. However, Stafford’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by the Rams.
The Rams voted Stafford the team’s MVP, per the team’s official website.
Additionally, tight end Terrance Ferguson earned “Best Rookie” honors. Linebacker Nate Landman won the Karl Eckern Spirit of the Game Award. Left tackle Alaric Jackson earned the Ed Block Courage Award.
Stafford and the Rams will have to wait until the “NFL Honors” on February 5 for the official announcement on the 2025 NFL MVP.
