De'Von Achane made the Pro Bowl

The Miami Dolphins dropped to 6-8 as they lost 45-21 to the Cincinnati Bengals. The game featured rookie seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers making his first NFL start. He got off to a strong start as he opened up the game 9-for-11 for 105 passing yards before struggling in the second half.

Miami’s top performer on the season played well once again. Of course, that is running back De’Von Achane, who surpassed former Dolphins running back Delvin Williams and moved up to fourth on the Dolphins’ single-season rushing leaderboard. Achane finished with 15 carries for 81 rushing yards and a touchdown. Achane is now third in the NFL in rushing yards, despite having the fewest attempts out of anyone in the top six.

De’Von Achane Is the Lone Dolphins Pro Bowl Player

On Tuesday, December 23, the NFL announced their Pro Bowl rosters. Dolphins running back De’Von Achane was the team’s lone representative as he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

The last Dolphins running back to make the Pro Bowl was Raheem Mostert in 2023, when he set a Dolphins record with 21 total touchdowns. Achane already has surpassed Mostert’s 2023 rushing yards total by more than 200 yards. Mostert and Achane shared a backfield for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Following the 2024 season, Mostert was released by the team.

Achane’s third season has represented a true breakout as he set career-highs in rushing yards, scrimmage yards and matched his career-high for touchdowns in a season. He’s under contract for another season with the Dolphins, but he’ll likely want an extension in the offseason. The Miami Dolphins will likely have to decide between extending the talented running back or trading him in the final year of his contract. Earlier this year, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said Achane garnered “significant interest at the trade deadline.” The Dolphins reportedly wanted a second-round pick and more, which no team was willing to give Miami.

Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl Snubs

Despite the disappointing season, the Dolphins have had plenty of Pro Bowl-worthy performers. Jordyn Brooks, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alec Ingold and Jaylen Waddle were all selected as alternates. Brooks missed out on a spot in spite of leading the NFL in tackles. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver spoke of Brooks and said, “He’s the best linebacker in the league… everything you want and expect out of an inside linebacker, he is. He is more than deserving of [a Pro Bowl] nod. I think he deserves All-Pro.” Unfortunately for Brooks, it seems he’ll have to wait and see if he’ll make the Pro Bowl.

Perhaps the biggest snub for the Dolphins is center Aaron Brewer, who missed out on being an alternate. Offensive line scout and developer Duke Mayweather said, “Lane Johnson and Aaron Brewer not being named to the Pro Bowl is Criminal.” Bleacher Report’s offensive line analyst Brandon Thorn deemed the Brewer omission ‘egregious’ and said Brewer should have been selected over Tyler Linderbaum.
