Following the season, the Miami Dolphins began their search for a new general manager. After hiring Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman as a consultant in their process, the team landed on former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan. Sullivan had served in that role with the Packers since 2022. In that stretch, the Packers have gone 37-30. He’ll succeed former general manager Chris Grier, who served in that role from 2016 to 2025.
Regarding his team-building philosophy, Jon-Eric Sullivan has previously said, “You build through the draft, it’s a young man’s game, you always have to be assessing your quarterback situation, making sure that you have a quarterback that you can win with.” It remains to be seen what his thoughts on the Dolphins roster are; however, the team has already announced a pair of roster moves.
Dolphins Announce Roster Moves
One of the players who won’t be a part of Sullivan’s vision in Miami is Kadeem Telfort. The left tackle was part of Sullivan’s team in Green Bay as he signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He failed to make their 2025 roster, and then was signed by the Dolphins’ practice squad prior to the season. However, it seems Miami has seen enough as they announced they have terminated his contract.
Prior to the 2023 draft, Telfort was described by the Pro Football Network as a “Long, nasty college left tackle who projects to the right side.” They viewed him as a “massive lineman with the size, dimensions, and power to play on the right side. He’s a bit of a project, yet he’s worth stashing on a practice squad.” After several years on the practice squad, two teams have determined that the project is no longer worth a spot on the team.
Regarding Sullivan’s vision for the offensive line, he’d previously said in an interview, “You want size, the girth. When he gets on you, he can get thick on you in a hurry.” Miami’s offensive line issues have been a point of contention with Dolphins fans for several years. The former general manager Chris Grier had previously told the Miami media regarding the offensive line, “I think you guys are probably more worried than we are.”
Miami Dolphins Offseason Outlook
Despite former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel indicating that he did not believe the Dolphins needed a full rebuild, the actions taken by ownership have shown another set of beliefs. After firing the general manager and head coach, Miami will enter a new era. Whether they take the route they did in 2019, when they traded a majority of their assets for draft capital, or whether they extend some players and complement the roster through the draft remains to be seen.
Miami’s primary assets include the 11th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, De’Von Achane in the final year of his rookie contract and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle with three years left on his contract. New general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan will have to make decisions on the future of veteran players like Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, Aaron Brewer, and Jordyn Brooks. Hill and Chubb command a large cap hit in 2026, which might incline Miami to release them. Meanwhile, Brewer and Brooks are both entering the final year of their contract and they both will likely be seeking contract extensions after their stellar seasons.
