The Miami Dolphins, having started the season 0-3, at this point look to be more sellers than buyers in the trade market, which could start to heat up as teams have around 6 weeks to finalize any deals; as they look to cash in on big names, or go all-in at a chance of securing the Big Prize in February.
One candidate that has been put forward as a possible sell-chip over the next month-and-a-half is running back, Jaylen Wright – who, according to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, could potentially see himself in a Los Angeles Chargers outfit in the near future.
The Chargers lost Najee Harris to a season-ending Achilles tear last weekend, and with only former Tennessee Titan, Hassan Haskins behind him – whom head coach, Jim Harbaugh once coached at the the University of Michigan – the AFC West contenders could well be looking for further ammunition at the position group that currently has just two active members within it.
With a 3-0 start, the Chargers should be aggressive in filling roster voids to maintain their momentum.” Moton wrote on Tuesday, “Though Harris had a rotational role after he suffered an eye injury in an offseason fireworks incident, Los Angeles can add a veteran ball-carrier who can take some pressure off Hampton in his first year.
Jaylen Wright No Longer The Second-Choice Man In Miami
Moton also points out that sixth round rookie, Ollie Gordon II, has impressed early on in the year, and has now become the de facto backup to starter, De’Von Achane, ahead of Wright, possibly leaving him expendable.
Miami Dolphins rookie sixth-rounder Ollie Gordon II has looked impressive as a complement to De’Von Achane. During the preseason, he generated buzz and took advantage of his time on the field while Jaylen Wright, a 2024 fourth-rounder, missed time with a knee injury.
Through the first three weeks of the season, Gordon has logged 12 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. Entering Week 3, Wright didn’t have an injury designation, but he didn’t play a snap against the Buffalo Bills. With Gordon’s emergence, he may need a change of scenery to see significant playing time.”
What Would It Cost For The Dolphins To Trade Wright?
As Moton noted, Wright did not even see a snap against Buffalo, and is yet to register a carry all season as he slowly returns from a knee injury.
The chances are, if Wright stays in Florida, he probably will get some more time on the field. But if Gordon and Achane stay healthy, the former Tennessee Volunteer’s carries will be severely limited, especially considering head coach, Mike McDaniel, has always prioritized the passing offense when quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa has been available.
But if the Chargers or another RB-needy team like the Chicago Bears come in and make an offer of something in the vicinity of a fifth round pick, Miami could be reticent to refuse – even if they still retain high expectations on the explosive tailback.
