The Miami Dolphins kept some of their edge rushing depth this offseason by re-signing Cameron Goode. On Wednesday, they added to it with Joshua Uche.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Dolphins are signing Uche to a 1-year contract.
Uche once played in the AFC East with the New England Patriots. The edge rusher spent the 2025 season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
During his third season with the Patriots in 2022, Uche posted 11.5 sacks with nine tackles for loss and 14 quarterback hits. He also had two pass defenses while playing in 15 games that campaign.
Uche, a Miami native, registered 23 combined tackles, including two tackles for loss, with three quarterback hits, one sack and one pass defense in 2025.
Uche’s contract, along with Miami’s agreements with their other free agents, can become official at 4 pm ET Wednesday. That’s when the NFL officially begins their new league year, allowing free agents to sign their contracts.
Dolphins Signing Edge Rusher Joshua Uche: Report
Six years into his career, Uche is a one-hit wonder. More than half of his career sacks came in that 2022 season referenced.
In his five other NFL campaigns, Uche has 10 sacks in 61 contests.
But the veteran was a solid contributor on a rotational basis for a playoff team last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Uche registered 23 total pressures on 142 pass rushing snaps. Of those 23 pressures, 21 of them were hurries.
Uche also posted very strong analytics at Pro Football Focus.
His overall PFF grade last season was 85.1, which was the best mark on the Eagles defense. Uche had strong grades all around, posting his highest mark in the pass rushing category.
Uche didn’t have strong PFF grades during the 2023 or 2024 campaigns. But obviously, the Dolphins are hoping he will be able to repeat his 2025 success this fall while probably playing more snaps in Miami.
Dolphins Moving on Without 2-Time Pro Bowler Bradley Chubb
Miami was in the market (and still could be) for edge rushing help because of Bradley Chubb’s departure.
ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques reported on February 16 the Dolphins released Chubb. The veteran missed all of the 2024 campaign because of a torn ACL.
But in 2023 and 2025, he had at least 8.5 sacks each season.
During 2023, Chubb posted 11 sacks with a league-leading six forced fumbles.
That’s a lot of production for the Dolphins to replace. Uche probably won’t do that on his own, but Miami is taking a flier on the hope he will be part of the solution.
However, the Dolphins are still going to see Chubb twice next season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Chubb signed a 3-year, $43.5 million contract with the Buffalo Bills. The deal will include $29 million and could be worth up to $52.5 million.
Both moves fit the directions of the two AFC East franchises. Although he will be 30 years old in June, Chubb can immediately help the Bills, who are trying to make another push for a Super Bowl appearance in 2026.
Meanwhile, Uche and the rest of Miami’s free agent signings will begin rebuilding the Dolphins defense under new head coach Jeff Hafley.
