The Miami Dolphins have experienced quite a bit of turnover on the offensive side of the ball this offseason. It was clear that the team was going to need some playmakers during the 2026 NFL Draft, and they did just that. However, they also managed to bring some intriguing players to town via the undrafted free agent market once the draft wrapped up.
One of the more exciting additions was former Texas A&M Aggies running back Le’Veon Moss, as he appeared to be a player who could potentially carve out a role in the rushing attack behind De’Von Achane. Instead, Moss made a shocking retirement decision on Tuesday, just a couple of weeks after signing with the Dolphins.
Le’Veon Moss Announces Retirement from the NFL
After losing star playmakers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle this offseason, the Dolphins are going to need other guys besides Achane to step up on offense. Moss was certainly a flier, but he was productive during his time on the field in college, leading folks to believe that if he got a shot, he could make an immediate impact for Miami.
Staying on the field was a problem for Moss during his four years with Texas A&M, but when he had the ball in his hands, he was capable of making big plays. In 2025, he played in only seven games, but he still managed to pick up 404 yards and six touchdowns on just 77 carries. Had he simply managed to play more, there’s a decent chance Moss would have heard his name called in the 2026 draft.
Still, it seemed like Moss had landed in a solid spot with a Miami team that desperately needs playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. After recently signing with the team as an undrafted free agent, though, Moss has surprisingly opted to retire from the NFL, dealing the Dolphins’ offense another tough blow this offseason.
“Dolphins RB Le’Veon Moss, who they signed as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M, is retiring from the NFL, the team announced,” Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team shared in a post on X.
Dolphins Still Looking for Answers on the Offensive Side of the Ball

There’s no guarantee that Moss would have panned out, but having different options to take a look at during training camp is going to be a big piece of the puzzle for the Dolphins moving forward. Achane can’t be the only reliable playmaker for the team on offense, but the problem is that, right now at least, he is.
Miami still has talented youngsters in Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II working behind him, and with Moss retiring, they are going to get more work during training camp. Chances are, the team will add another running back over the next few weeks in order to fill out their depth chart, but there’s no doubt that losing Moss has dealt the team a tough blow that they were not expecting.
