As the Miami Dolphins opened OTAs, new quarterback Malik Willis is getting familiar with his new wide receivers.
Unlike years past when the Dolphins had one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL,the current group of receivers is a mix of veterans who have primarily been depth pieces and unproven rookies.
Former Miami wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is now a member of the Denver Broncos after being traded prior to the 2026 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill remains a free agent after his dislocated knee ended his 2025 season in Week 4 against the Jets. Now, a new prediction has him reuniting with the team that traded him to the Dolphins.
Former Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Predicted to Join Chiefs
Fox Sports writer Ben Arthur listed teams that should sign the biggest names on the free agent market. For former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, Arthur listed the Kansas City Chiefs.
Arthur wrote:
“Hill’s status for 2026 remains unclear after dislocating his left knee and tearing multiple ligaments, including his ACL, last September. But after an unceremonious end to his Miami Dolphins’ tenure, a return to the Chiefs makes sense, health-enabling. He would provide much-needed veteran depth for a wide receiver room that’s seen uneven play since his departure from Kansas City in 2022.”
The Kansas City Chiefs traded Hill to the Dolphins prior to the 2022 season as the Chiefs did not want to make him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, after Davante Adams had previously reset the market with the Las Vegas Raiders. After negotiations with the Jets and Dolphins, Hill agreed to join Miami in what was a blockbuster trade.
Prior to joining the Dolphins, Hill had already cemented himself as one of the most dangerous wide receivers in the NFL. While some were concerned that he would be unable to replicate that production without Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, Hill would go on to have the two best statistical seasons of his career in Miami. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there.
Tyreek Hill’s Departure
After back-to-back seasons with postseason appearances, Miami endured a difficult 2024 season in which Tyreek Hill dealt with a wrist injury that resulted in the wide receiver failing to surpass 1,000 receiving yards. Additionally, Hill removed himself from the final game of the season once it became clear the team would be eliminated from playoff contention. In a moment of frustration post-game, Hill expressed that he wanted out. Hill would later publicly apologize to the team, and expressed that he wanted to remain with the Dolphins, but would occasionally hint at a Chiefs reunion.
Unfortunately, he suffered the previously mentioned knee injury in 2025. He underwent knee surgery days after the injury, but stated that his injury was so severe that it required a second surgery months after the initial procedure.
As a result, the Dolphins released him as he was set to carry a $51 million cap hit in the 2026 season. The Chiefs or any other interested team, would likely have to feel comfortable with Hill’s recovery in order to sign the former Miami Dolphins receiver.
