The Miami Dolphins finished the year 7-10 after their 38-10 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 18. Miami’s double-digit losses marked their worst since 2019. The Dolphins were eliminated in Week 15 after their Monday Night Football loss in Pittsburgh.
Perhaps one of the primary reasons the team struggled and failed to meet expectations was the absence of superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. In Week 4 against the Jets, Hill suffered a dislocated knee which ended his season. In four games played this season, Hill had 265 receiving yards and a touchdown. He was on pace for 1,127 receiving yards, which would have led the team.
Tyreek Hill’s Future in Miami
The five-time All-Pro is still under contract with the Dolphins for another season, but Miami could decide to move off his contract this offseason. Amid the uncertainty of his recovery from injury, the Dolphins could explore other options at the wide receiver position, at a cheaper price. Currently, Hill has a $51 million cap hit in 2026. Regarding Hill’s contract situation and future with the team, ESPN analyst Marcel Louis-Jacques said, “there’s no way Hill returns on his current deal — if at all.”
Following the season, Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson noted that injured players were allowed to talk to the media. However, Tyreek Hill wasn’t in the facility. He said that Tyreek is “expected to be a cap casualty.” Hill being waived by the team would end his four-year tenure in Miami, which produced two All-Pro seasons, two top-10 MVP finishes, a receiving yards title, receiving touchdown title, and the two best seasons by a Dolphins wide receiver in the team’s history.
After acquiring Tyreek Hill from the Chiefs, Miami made the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Unfortunately, the team was unable to win a playoff game in either of their two playoff games. The Chiefs meanwhile utilized the assets given up by the Dolphins in the trade and won back-to-back Super Bowls. The two teams faced off in the playoffs in 2023. The Chiefs won 26-7 in the fourth coldest game in NFL history. Hill scored the lone points for the Dolphins in that game.
Comments by Tyreek Hill’s Agent
During the season, Tyreek Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus spoke about Hill’s future with the Dolphins. He said, “he has not talked to the Dolphins about a 2026 return” and that the conversation would take place after the season. With the Dolphins in search of a general manager, perhaps that conversation will have to wait.
Rosenhaus also spoke about Hill’s recovery from his injury. Following the surgery, he noted that Hill was expected to make a full recovery and be available for Week 1 of the 2026 season. When he spoke about Hill’s future with the team, Rosenhaus also added that Hill’s recovery was still on schedule. After the season ended, Tyreek Hill took to social media and posted “loading” with pictures of him in a Dolphins uniform.
