A former Minnesota Vikings quarterback announced his retirement on Wednesday.

A fifth-round pick in 2023 out of BYU, quarterback Jaren Hall is calling it a career after two seasons in the NFL

“There’s a lot I could say, but mostly I just feel grateful,” wrote Hall on Instagram.

“Sports have been woven into nearly every part of my life- they’ve challenged me, humbled me, shaped my faith, introduced me to lifelong friendships, and given me experiences I never could have imagined. From growing up in this community to representing my hometown, to having the opportunity to play in the NFL, it has all been a blessing.

What I’ll carry most isn’t the milestones, but the people– teammates, coaches, family, and a community that supported me every step of the way.

My heart is full as I close this chapter and finish my football career. I’m thankful to everyone who’s been part of the journey.

The game has given me more than I could ever give back.”

Hall was drafted by the Vikings in 2023, and appeared in three games during his rookie season. His most memorable moment with the organization was a strong game against the Atlanta Falcons that was unfortunately cut short due to injury. After getting released by the Vikings the following year, he latched on with the Seattle Seahawks, before eventually wrapping up his football career with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions. Hall finished his NFL career with 168 yards and one interception.

Hall is the second former Vikings signal-caller to retire this week, with Taylor Heinicke calling it a career just days earlier. Both, at certain points in time, were possibly thought to be the next promising young quarterback for the Vikings, but neither realized their full potential in Minnesota.

Hall will now move on to his next chapter after football.

The Vikings QB Situation is Heating Up

Meanwhile, the Vikings current quarterback situation is just getting interesting. It’s been reported that both Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy will have a chance at the starting job, but the hype around one of them is already exploding.

ESPN analyst Bart Scott thinks Murray will win the job, and take it a step further by being the best quarterback in the entire division.

“I believe this is the most competitive division in football and I think the team that’s going to really surprise a lot of people it’s the Minnesota Vikings,” said Scott. “At the end of this season, I think we may say that Kyler Murray is the most talented quarterback within that division.”

“You pair him with Kevin O’Connell with the weapons that he has–a tight end in T.J. Hockenson, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison. Then you go out and get a gritty guy like Jauan Jennings. I think the sky’s the limit for Kyler Murray.”

The Vikings won’t name a starter for some time, but it’s not the first time Murray has garnered praise from the national media. Still, there’s always a chance the McCarthy bounces back from a rocky season in 2025 to reclaim the starting role.
