The New England Patriots made a wide receiver move on Tuesday afternoon. They signed Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a three-year, $60 million deal. NFL analyst Jordan Schultz reported this.
He recorded 55 sections for 724 yards and six touchdowns last season. He averaged 13.2 yards per catch, and had 85 total targets.
Over four seasons with the Packers, the wide receiver had 202 receptions for 2, 424 yards and 21 touchdowns.
This is the first move for the Patriots’ wide receiver room and what has been a off-season full of moves and decisions across the lake. Doubs had recently been linked to the Patriots prior to free agency. Now, it appears that he is going to New England and giving them another receiving weapon, as noted by Schultz.

The Washington Commanders were also a team that Doubs was interested in.
New England Patriots Get Playmaking Receiver
The Patriots were able to get a playmaking receiver in Doubs and fix the void at the wide receiver position. He has playmaking potential, and he showed it at times last season for the Packers. The wideout averaged 13.2 yards per catch, which was a career-best. He also recorded two catches of over 40 yards during the 2025 regular-season. Although not high-volume, it showed his big-playability.
He was able to showcase his skill set a bit more during the postseason. The Packers faced off against the rival Chicago Bears, and Doubs played well. He led the team with 124 receiving yards and a touchdown on the afternoon.
In addition to what he can do down the field, he also excels in the red zone. The wide receiver tallied seven red zone receiving touchdowns in 2023. This is a significant statistic, given that he recorded 674 total receiving yards and eight touchdowns that year.
New England Patriots Could Be In Line For Moves
This is certainly a nice move for the Patriots. They get additional wide receiver depth, as well as a receiver who can make big plays. They could also still have their eyes on another receiver. This move does not necessarily prevent the Patriots from going after someone like A. J. Brown. Karen Guregian of MassLive reported this.
The Patriots needed to upgrade their wide receiver room. Doubs is certainly a strong depth signing and could be viewed as an upgrade compared to what they currently have on their roster. The Patriots have wide receivers such as Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas and Mack Hollins, among others. Now, this could make for some interesting battles heading into training camp.
This was a noteworthy move for the Patriots. Patriots fans have been clamoring for other moves to be made, and it is still early in free agency. With that being said, this is a notable move. The team was able to add to their depth in free agency, and they were also able to add a veteran with playing experience.
It will be interesting to see what other moves they make over the course of free agency. It is still too early to make any distinctions in the 2026 free agent class, but this is certainly a step in the right direction
