Drake Maye has taken the NFL world by storm in the last six months. Whether its been his MVP level play on the field, the social media accounts of “DrakeMayeLover,” his new nickname “Drake ‘Drake Maye’ Maye,” or his wife Ann Michael’s “Bakemas” series on social media, Maye has been at the forefront of the media cycle each and every week.

But what you may not have known about Maye is that he has three older brothers, each of which is an athlete in their own right. Luke, Cole, and Beau are Drake’s older brothers, and left legacies in the sports world before Maye ever played an NFL snap.

Here’s what you need to know about the Maye brothers:

1. Luke Played Basketball at North Carolina

If the name Luke Maye sounds familiar, you’re probably a pretty big college basketball fan. Luke was a standout for the Tar Heels from 2015-2019, and had one of the most iconic shots in recent March Madness history.

In the 2017 Regional Final, Luke hit the game-winning shot against Kentucky to send UNC to the Final Four.

It’s a moment that will send chills down your spine, whether you’re a basketball fan or not. Drake still says this is the biggest sports moment from any member of his family.

UNC went on to win the National Championship that season. Luke played 10 minutes in the Championship game, registering two rebounds.

Luke played all four seasons with the Tar Heels, averaging 9.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in his collegiate career.

2. Cole Played Baseball at the University of Florida

Cole was a National Champion for the Gators when they won the NCAA Baseball Championship in 2017.

Cole only appeared in one season with Florida however. It was the 2017 season when they won the Championship. He pitched 3 2/3 innings in five appearances for the Gators that season, posting an ERA of 12.27 while striking out for batters.

3. Beau Also Played Basketball at North Carolina

Beau Maye also played basketball at North Carolina, though in a much smaller role than his older brother Luke. As a walk-on, Beau only ever appeared in two games, for one minute in each. He finished his collegiate career without ever scoring a point, though he did register two rebounds.

Injuries played a huge part in Beau’s limited playing career, as he went through nine knee surgeries during his youth and high school basketball journey.

Beau is now the head basketball coach at Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, the same high school he attended.

4. Luke Played Professional Basketball

Though he’s never made it to the NBA, Luke has played in a number of professional basketball leagues since graduating from UNC.

He was first signed to the Milwaukee Bucks summer league team in 2019, and was then added to their G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd. That was the only season of pro basketball he played in the United States.

Since then, he has played in five different leagues across the world: he played for the Dolomiti Energia Trenta of Lega Basket Serie A in Italy, Baxi Manresa of Liga ACB in Spain, Covirán Granada of LEB Oro in Spain, Tofaş of Basketbol Süper Ligi in Turkey, and the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins of the Japan Professional Basketball League.

5. Luke, Cole, and Beau Recorded a Special Message For Drake When he was Drafted

When Drake was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2024, his brothers were asked to record a message for him.

Instead of using it to send a heartfelt message to their youngest brother, they recreated the scene from the ESPN 30 for 30 about the “Fab Five.”

Drake has credited the competitiveness of his brothers with much of his success in the NFL.
