The New England Patriots are playing in Super Bowl LX on Sunday. It’s the first Super Bowl appearance for the franchise since legendary QB Tom Brady left in free agency back in 2020. The Patriots engineered a remarkably quick turnaround, with former New England linebacker Mike Vrabel winning Coach of the Year in his first as the Patriots’ head coach, leading his old team back to the mountaintop.
One of the architects of the Patriots’ strong season is second-year QB Drake Maye. The former North Carolina Tar Heel finished second in MVP voting, just one first-place vote behind MVP winner Matthew Stafford. Maye finished the regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 touchdowns, completing 72.0 percent of his passes and adding 450 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
But Maye had been listed on the Patriots’ injury report throughout last week, and his status for the Super Bowl had been drawn into question, at least a little bit. On Friday, however, New England got a final update on Maye’s status.

On Friday, the Patriots released their final injury report for the Super Bowl. After being questionable with a right shoulder injury for over a week, Maye was a full participant in all three practices this week and has no injury designation heading into the game. He’ll be a full go.
Three Patriots defenders are questionable for the Super Bowl however, including two starters. LB Robert Spillane is dealing with an ankle injury while ED Harold Landry has a knee injury and did not practice on Thursday (Spillane didn’t practice on Wednesday, and both were limited the rest of the week). Rookie DT Joshua Farmer has a hamstring injury, though he was a full participant in practice all week.
Meanwhile, OT Thayer Munford Jr. also has no injury designation for the Super Bowl after suffering a knee injury.
New England Patriots QB Drake Maye Faces a Tough Seahawks Defense
The Seahawks‘ defense is one of the best the league has seen in some time. They rank sixth in total defense, third in run defense, first in scoring defense, sixth in total takeaways, and third in EPA per play allowed. Seattle has stifled opponents throughout the season and in the playoffs, shutting down some of the league’s best offenses.
The Patriots might be up for the task, though. Maye has grown a lot this season and is playing free and confident. New England boasts a tough defense of their own, with the best defense by yardage in the playoffs so far.
Much has been made of the Patriots’ easy path to the Super Bowl, but they’re here now. One game remains to win it all. For the Patriots, it’s a position this franchise is comfortable in. Not every team can say that.
