The New England Patriots are preparing for their final game of the 2025 campaign, which will see them square off against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX. As has usually been the case throughout the season, second-year quarterback Drake Maye is the talk of the town, but this time, he’s in the news for a different reason.
All year long, Maye’s sudden rise from an inconsistent rookie to a de facto MVP candidate has made him one of the most popular players in the league. Ahead of the Super Bowl, though, Maye has been dealing with a bothersome shoulder injury, which has become one of the biggest storylines in the buildup to this game. According to one NFL insider, though, it sounds like Maye and the Patriots have nothing to worry about.
Drake Maye’s Injury Status Not a Concern Ahead of Super Bowl LX
In his first full season as the Patriots’ starting quarterback, Maye flourished under center. He finished the season with 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns in the air, while also rushing for 450 yards and four more scores. Those numbers earned him his second straight Pro Bowl selection and a spot on the All-Pro Second Team.
In the postseason, Maye hasn’t been as good, but it’s worth noting that he’s faced three of the top-five defenses in the league, with two of those games featuring adverse weather conditions. It hasn’t necessarily been pretty, but when New England has needed a big play, Maye has been able to step up and deliver the goods.
In the wake of the AFC Championship Game, Maye popped up on the Pats’ injury report with a shoulder injury, immediately raising concerns about his status for the Super Bowl. However, Maye himself has publicly said he’s ready to roll for this game, and according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, it sounds like the same message is being echoed behind the scenes, too.
“It is going to be OK,” Rapoport said about Maye’s shoulder injury on “Super Bowl Live.” “That is the words of Drake Maye, that is the words of people I’ve spoken with who have in-depth knowledge of the situation … For Drake Maye, it is all systems go for the Super Bowl.”

Regardless of what happens in the Super Bowl, Maye has already proven himself to be not just New England’s quarterback of the future, but also one of the best players at his position in the entire league. Considering how this is only year No. 2 for him, that is wildly impressive, and it feels like the sky’s the limit for Maye and the Patriots.
But make no mistake about it; the Pats mean business now that they are in the Super Bowl. The Seahawks pose the biggest challenge this team has faced all season, but N.E. has proven it can go toe-to-toe with any team on any given night. And chances are, if the Patriots come out on top, it will be because Maye had another big game under center for his team.
