Stefon Diggs received a major victory in court on Tuesday.

The former New England Patriots wide receiver was found not guilty of choking his chef last year, TMZ reports.

He was facing one count of felony strangulation and one count of misdemeanor assault and battery, but the jury determined he was not guilty of either, with the case now closed. The outlet adds that Diggs was “emotional as the verdict was being read.”

The New York Post adds that the jury was composed of six people, with the decision coming after just 90 minutes of deliberations. If he was found guilty, Diggs was facing five years in prison for the strangulation charge as well as two-and-a-half years in jail for the misdemeanor assault.

Diggs has maintained his innocence throughout, having pleaded not guilty in February. His attorney Andrew Kettlewell reiterated that during his opening statement on Monday.

“The assault that the Commonwealth described in their opening statement never happened,” Kettlewell told jurors, as quoted by ESPN.com. “It did not happen.”

The Alleged Incident & Jamila Adams’ Testimony

On Dec. 2, which was just a few days after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants last season, Diggs’ former live-in personal chef, Jamila Adams, testified that during an argument, the receiver slapped and choked in his home in Dedham. The dispute was said to be over pay.

In court, Adams testified that she and Diggs had a sexual relationship before she was hired by the receiver as his personal chef, according to  TMZ. She was officially offered the job in February 2025 and was paid $2,000 a week, living in the hoe from July to December.

She added that she did not immediately report the assault and was questioned why she didn’t document any of her injuries afterwards. TMZ further reported that Adams was “admonished on several occasions by the judge for failing to answer questions asked by the Diggs’ defense team.”

Diggs spent the 2025 season with the New England Patriots, having signed a three-year deal last offseason. However, he was released in March in a move by the team to save money, with the Patriots freeing $16.8 million in salary cap space.

He has not yet signed with a team, and much of that could be due to this trial. Many teams were likely waiting to see what the outcome would be, but now that he has been found not guilty, the talented receiver could find a new home very quick.

“Any team that signs him will be lucky to have him,” Diggs’ lawyer said after the trial concluded. “We are very pleased and happy that Stefon will continue on and play football in the National Football League.”
