The cheers were loud at Gillette Stadium as rookie left tackle Will Campbell and star defensive tackle Milton Williams returned to the field on Sunday following their respective stints on injured reserve.

With the playoffs right around the corner, getting both back is a huge boost for the New England Patriots‘ offense and defense.

“I mean, I thought that they were okay,” head coach Mike Vrabel said when asked about their performances after Sunday’s 38-10 win over the Dolphins. “I thought that Milton factored a few times. Again, a lot of great efforts out there. I’m not going to single Will or Milt. I’m sure they did okay.”

Williams spent the last five games sidelined with an ankle injury, and after the game, he revealed how it felt to be back on the field.

“I just felt good,” Williams said. “I just felt good being back, being out there. Sitting on the couch, that’s garbage. I ain’t gonna lie… Little rusty, but it was just good to put my hands on somebody and run around a little bit at game speed.”

However, he did admit that he was definitely feeling the wear and tear of the game.

“It was all right, a little sore,” Williams added. “I’ve got a high-ankle (sprain), so it ain’t finna just go away. So it’s just something I’m going to have to deal with. Keep working with our training staff and keep moving forward.”

Williams won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, so missing the playoffs was not an option for him as he’s looking to repeat and lift another Lombardi Trophy.

“Blessed to be in this position and for my injury not to be as bad as everybody initially thought,” Williams stated. “Shout out to our training staff, our strength staff, and our coaching staff for keeping me in the loop, keeping me ready, and keeping me doing what I need to do to make sure I get back into form to help this team win games.”

Campbell couldn’t wait to get back after his short stint on injured reserve. And after the game, he reflected on the night.

“Man, I’m just super thankful,” he told reporters. “Whenever I went down, of course, immediately I think the worst, so just to have the opportunity to come back and play again out there, being on the field with the guys, it’s what I work for year-round. So, for it to be able to happen, it’s just really special. I was really excited to be out there.”

He also provided some insight into how his knee is feeling.

“I feel good, so it’s a blessing,” he added. “I just can’t thank the guys in the training room enough that helped me out. They pushed me. Just trying to get me in the best position possible, and I appreciate it.”
