The New England Patriots have been urged to sign wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Miami Dolphins released Hill on Monday afternoon, and now Robert Griffin III wants the Patriots to make a run at the former Pro Bowl wideout.
Hill is coming off a season that saw him record 21 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown. The wideout played in four games last season. He suffered a dislocated knee and torn ACL in week four against the New York Jets and was out for the remainder of the season. This injury effectively ended his tenure with the Dolphins.
He was traded to Miami in March 2022, and immediately made an impact. He recorded 119 receptions, 1,710 yards, and seven touchdowns that season. The 2023 season was more of the same. He played in 16 games and recorded 119 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. He led the NFL in yards and scoring that year.
2024 saw his numbers dip a bit, as an injury to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa played a role in that. The quarterback missed the first four games of the season, and in the final two games of the season. Even still, the wide receiver tallied 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns.
Now, Hill will be looking for a new home. Griffin believes that the Patriots should pick up the phone and inquire about Hill’s availability.
The New England Patriots need to sign Tyreek Hill. Drake Maye was the best deep ball thrower in football this year. If Tyreek Hill gets back to 90% of what he was, the Patriots get a massive mismatch chess piece on their board.

The Patriots were in a similar scenario last season. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs was coming off a torn ACL that he suffered in October 2024. Diggs signed with the Patriots with a three-year $60 million deal. The consensus was that Diggs would still be able to play at a high level and had recovered from injury.
The wide receiver did both of those things seamlessly. He recorded 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 11.9 yards per reception. The wideout was also able to become a key veteran leader for the wide receiver room, as the Patriots made it back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 2018 season.
Hill Would Be Explosive Move For Patriots
Adding Hill to the wide receiver room would be an interesting move. He is only 31 years old, but an ACL injury is tough to bounce back from for a receiver. He would give the Patriots another weapon in the wide receiver room and allow them to have another playmaker to spread the field. That being said, the Patriots could benefit from adding playmakers in other areas besides the wide receiver position.
Hill would definitely be a splash move. Griffin is not entirely off-base with his post. He would add a different element to the receiver room. However, it would be a high-risk move for a wide receiver group that was promising in 2025. The Patriots have young wide receivers such as Kyle Williams and Demario Douglas, who showed promise in 2025. Taking snaps away from them could be a risky move.
There are pros and cons to every acquisition, and the Patriots would have to figure out if Hill’s pros outweigh the cons.
