For all of the excitement around the New York Giants heading into the 2025 season, the campaign fell very short of expectations. But, you can credit some of the dysfunction this season to injuries, the two biggest ones being wide receiver Malik Nabers torn ACL and meniscus, and running back Cam Skattebo’s gruesome, multi-layered leg injury.
The early play of Russell Wilson and the eventual injuries sustained by Jaxson Dart certainly didn’t help either.
But the Giants did get some good news this morning, as Nabers told Giants’ reporter Jordan Raanan that his rehab has been “phenomenal.”
In addition to the ACL surgery that Nabers underwent, he also confirmed that he had a procedure done to repair his injured meniscus. The silver lining to all of this is that the injury occurred at the end of September with the surgeries coming in the following days, so Nabers has already had four months of recovery and rehab, which certainly helps his timeline to return to play next season.
Nabers Confirms Injuries, Rehab is Going Well
The fact that Nabers went out of his way to confirm that his rehab was going phenomenal is a great sign for Giants fans. He certainly could have stayed out of the spotlight and healed on his own, but his confidence in the recovery process can really only mean positive things.
Raanan shared a post on what Nabers relayed to him via his X account.
“Malik Nabers told me his rehab has been “phenomenal,” Raanan wrote. “He did in fact have a full meniscus repair in addition to ACL surgery in October. That explains the crutch + brace he was wearing last month. Typically full meniscus repair does add to recovery timeline.”
That pesky meniscus injury is what may be slowing things down for Nabers’ recovery. With an ACL injury by itself, you’re typically looking at roughly a year long recovery for football players, with the potential for 10 or 11 months if rehabbing does go “phenomenally,” as Nabers said.
But, with the meniscus needing time to heal as well, it could be limiting what he’s able to do as far as physical therapy and range of motion exercises go.
There’s no official timetable for Nabers return, but he said he won’t push it until his body feels fully ready to get back into football action.
“The target date is when my body feels ready and I can continue to be who I am, and my body feels able to do the things that I was doing before the injury,” Nabers said in January.”If my body doesn’t feel right, I won’t be out there.”
Giants WR Room Heading Into 2026
Depending on where Nabers timeline is come NFL Draft time in April, New York may choose to select a wide receiver with its No. 5 overall pick. Ohio State standout Carnell Tate should be available once the Giants are on the clock.
With or without a drafted wide receiver, New York’s wide receiver room is very shallow, especially without Nabers.
Wan’Dale Robinson stepped up big time in Nabers absence, catching 92 passes for 1,014 yards this season. Behind him on the depth chart though, things get thin quick, with Darius Slayton, Isaiah Hodgins, and Gunner Olszewski filling out the rest of the room.
