Jaxson Dart just can’t catch a break this season when it comes to his supporting cast.
Former All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas was forced to exit Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings early thanks to a hamstring injury.
The soft-tissue injury may force Thomas to miss the New York Giants‘ final two games, according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan.
“Mike Kafka described the players who left yesterday’s game with injuries as ‘day-to-day,'” Duggan wrote in a post on X.
“LT Andrew Thomas has a hamstring strain. My strong sense is we won’t see him in the final two games.”
Duggan was asked what his sense was based on, to which he replied:
“Source. Can’t say definitively that he won’t play, but that was the strong impression I got.”
Jaxson Dart’s Supporting Cast Suffers Another Blow
Thomas is the latest in a long line of injured New York Giants who were supposed to make life easy for Dart in his rookie season.
It started with second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers, who showed tantalizing upside in his rookie season after being selected sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The up-and-coming star tore his ACL in the Dart’s first start, a Week 4 tilt with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Then, in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, standout rookie running back Cam Skattebo fractured his ankle, cutting his exciting first season as a pro short.
Before the injury, Skattbeo had established himself as an elite two-way threat, racking up 617 scrimmage yards on 125 touches and seven total touchdowns in just seven games.
Without those pieces, New York’s offense has made do with wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson and running backs Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary, but the production from their injured stars is sorely missed.
Skattbeo still leads Giants running backs in touchdowns, despite not playing since early October, and Nabers is their fourth-leading receiver.
With Thomas out, New York’s offensive line will surely take a blow, as when healthy, he’s one of the top players in the league at his position.
It’s just another chapter in the rough rookie year it’s been for Dart in the Big Apple.
Andrew Thomas’ Injury Concerns
While Thomas, as previously mentioned, is a top-of-the-line left tackle, his biggest weakness is availability.
Since being selected fourth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Georgia Bulldog has struggled to stay consistently healthy across his six-year NFL career.
Of 101 possible games, Thomas has only appeared in 74, counting the two games he’s expected to miss to end the 2025 season.
“Sore, we haven’t done the image yet, so we’ll see tomorrow what the diagnosis is,” Thomas told reporters after Sunday’s game about his hamstring.
“Yeah, it sucks. There’s no other thing to say. We’re paid to win in this league and be competitive. We’re not right now, so got to figure it out.”
Expect to see a healthy dosage of reserve swing tackle Marcus Mbow against the Las Vegas Raiders next weekend, and against the Dallas Cowboys after that.
The next Giants coaching staff will hope to have Thomas back for the start of the 2026 season.
